Speaking of seedlings....

In another thread there is a discussion about seedlings. I have a number of H. carnosa 'Chelsea' plants and I am curious, does anyone have any information on this plant. It 'looks' like a sport or a seedling from the 'Krinkle 8'...and one of the small plants is growing with very deep red leaves when new and the older leaves are extremely dark green, not like the others. I would love to know where this plant came from (other than the woman who sent them to me!!!).

It must be going around, a few posts on GW from people who just bought it and are trying to figure out what it is....there are pics in the posts if you want to compare. I'd love to have one. Looks like a carnosa with heart shaped leaves. One bought his at a chain nursery in his area, I think the other came from EBay but I am not sure. There may be more info in those GW posts.

Well, in the wild pollination probably happens often at night, but I don't think the plant requires it - I think it has to do with the fact that the pollinators are night time insects.

Bhavana...if you see anything interesting on GW could you post it here or link it. Years ago I got crosswise with 'Spike' and got kicked off GW...now I can't even access it!!!! I have been kicked out of better bars, so I am not offended!!! LOL

Here is a photo of the H. carnosa 'Chelsea' I was talking about...this is what makes me think they are seedlings, as this one looks NOTHING like the others I have.

Carol, I have seen H. chelsea for sale on Ebay, and it doesn't look like the picture you posted. The ones on Ebay had heart-shaped leaves (like bhavana described), and seemed rather succulent. I will post links to the GW posts. There are no current listings on Ebay unfortunately...otherwise I would've put links to those so that you could see pictures.

You'll see that we had some trouble ID'ing the plant in question on that post, but at the bottom it became clear that it was probably H. chelsea.

There's no pic on this one, but the conversation seems to be similar to the first post

Hope that helps!

Thanks Gabi -- having to "link" something sounds like a job for someone who knows something about computers!

I did a trade with the woman who sells 'Chelsea' on ebay...and I know it is from the same group...thanks for the links.

So Carol,
Do you think that picture in the first link is Hoya chelsea?

Yes...that's what I have as that hoya. I like it.
