I noticed that there are SEVERAL of us that would like to trade for a "endless summer hydrangea". One of the commerical sites has "David Ramsey" which they claim is the same DNA as Endless Summer, bareroot for $3 per plant, with minimum of 10 plants plus postage of $8. Are there enough of us to successfully split up an order? I'm thinking seriously of ordering 10 and finding out! Let me know if you think you'd like to trade for one of them.
Pat
"Endless Summer hydrangea"
I heard the same thing from Nantucket Hydrangeas. I'm interested. Maybe that should be a coop? What are you looking for in trade if not a coop?
In trade instead.... verbena, lantana, a butterfly bush, LAVENDER!, variagated Iris (the stuff with the yellowish and green striped blades, peony, blue false daylily, Sweet Autumn Clematis, those are some of the things I can think of. I was thinking Coop mostly but I could consider a trade I suppose.
Pat
I have lots of those so I'd be interested in a trade for maybe 2.......
You are in luck, I have lavender. Forgot the name of the cultivar but it smells great and does well in part-shade too.
this is something that I might be interested in also. I can do coop or maybe trade.
Great! Let me know what you have to trade. If we can't find a good trade for both of us, than we can coop a plant to you. Does that work for you?
Pat
I have lots of perennial baby's breath. They tend to pop up little seedlings. I can send pictures. They will bloom next year and get to be a good sized plant. I also have a foxglove seedling. It will bloom next year also. I don't know what kind though. I have 4 varieties of mums that I've ordered that I'm planting now. 2 kinds of penstimon. a munstead lavender and I have a sweet autumn clematis that I can take a cutting of if you know how to start that. If you want a couple of things to make an even trade thats fine. I've never traded before, because I haven't had any plants too trade. But, I've participated in coops, so you can check out that I've paid promptly. I just wanted you to be aware of my newness so that you can make a decision.
I would like a couple of your perennial baby's breath little seedlings, 1 foxglove seedling, a start of one kind of penstimon if you have any that are pink, blue or lavenders... NOT reds or oranges. If that sounds good to you, let me know & I'll mail you a hydrangea as soon as they arrive here. They are being mailed out on Monday to me, I figure it is a safe bet that I can get the hydrangea back in the mail the following Monday.
Pat

I'd definitely take 10! I had 6 expensive 3-gallon Endless Summers that didn't get in the fall last year, no big deal since they're hardy to Zone 4, and they budded out in March, but there was a late, monthlong freeze in April that killed them off. I was stricken!
SummerKid, I don't have 10 to sell or trade you! I am only getting 10 total but I'll send you the info to buy yourself 10 direct if you would like.
Pat
Hello again. I'll get everything ready this weekend for monday also. The seedlings are good size so they should fair well. One of the penstemons I have is Red Rocks. It is pink and is hardy to zone 5. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53552/index.html . Will this be O.K.?
Mygyspyrose, that would be great! thanks... I'll be looking for it! Pat
Summerkid,
here are some sources, this is one gallon for $22 + shipping http://www.hydrangea.com/shopping/start.php at Wilkerson
or at Botany, http://www.endlesssummerhydrangea.com/ you can get 10 bareroot David Ramsey (identical DNA to Endless Summer) for $30 plus shipping of $8.
You can find more sources on the plant finder. I don't have 10 to trade, sorry!
Pat
mrsspeedsgarden,
I have not forgotten your offer of a peony. Do you have a picture or maybe a variety name so I can look it up? I had not thought of a peony but I'll consider it...
Pat
Critterologist drew my attention to the Parks Wholesale sale -- apparently there is no minimum order -- ES are selling for 8.99 each, with 9.95 (or something like that) for the entire order, no matter how large. They also have Lady in Red for about the same price. See http://parkwholesalegrowers10.chainreactionweb.com/
Thanks, psych!
Btw, I've been very happy with the shrubs ordered from Park Seed's landscape & wholesale division.
Pat,
I sent out your package today. Let me forwarn you...have a good pair of scissors ready. I dont think anything will move in that box. You are going to think that I'm very creative or just plain off my rocker. probably the latter. I shipped them in pots because the baby's breath didn't like their roots being disturbed, and quite frankly, I'm chicken s@#& to try to ship semi-bareroot the first time. It was all going flat rate anyways so the weight wasn't an issue. You might want to try opening it from the heavy end first. I hope it arrives to you O.K.. Please let me know when you get them in and how they are doing and if you have better suggestions for next time. Thankyou, Andrea
Mygypsyrose,
I have this image of the box exploding from the released pressure when I take a knife to it! I'll be ready for it! Thanks for the warning.
I told my husband about buying the 10 hydrangeas and he thought I was nuts until he heard I was trading, then he just laughed. I asked what was so funny... he said he was just delighted at seeing my enjoyment from it all. He does not share my love of gardening but thinks its wonderful that I love it.
Pat
We built our house a 1 1/2 yrs ago and I was stocking up on plants at the apartment while I was building the house. He had to move about 60 pots when we moved in :) Then I had to start planting my yard from scratch. Nothing on it but the trees we left after we cleared the land. Not one plant. He use to ask "are those more plants? and I would just smile and tell him that they add value to the house. This year he said nothing because he can see that its really making a difference and its looking like home. I think he's realized this has become my hobby and actually suggested that I look into the Master Gardeners program. I have an acre that is mine (except for the weeds that he mows... we haven't planted grass yet.) and alot of space to fill :) many years worth! Andrea
Let me know how I can help out with plants & seeds, Andrea!
Andrea,
My sister in law went thru the Master's Gardener program and loved it! If I was not so busy with my own schooling etc I'd consider looking into here in Idaho.
Pat
Thanks Summerkid! Thats very kind of you. I figue that I'd start trading now that I have a few plants to trade. I have to see how I do with the packing and then by next year I will hopefully start having things that I can divide. I'm going to wintersow this year also. My yard is in the sleep and creep mode and I can't wait for the Leap!
Pat, let me know how they make it there. I'm in a nervous anticipation. The baby's breath is actually a pink one. very light. very pretty. mine are starting to bloom now. gypsophilia pacifica (sp?) I'll have to take a picture for the plantfiles because they don't have one there. Andrea
Andrea,
The box arrived and it took more than a pair of scissors to get thos plants out!! LOL, they arrived in great shape and I can't thank you enough.
Your hydrangea will go out this Monday. They arrived here yesterday more wilted than I expected but also a little bigger! If the plant I send you does not recovery PLEASE let me know and I'll make the trade good somehow, OK? I want you to be as pleased with the trade as I am,
I left positive feedback for you also. If you are pleased with the trade please leave me feedback too. Thanks again!
Pat
Oh good! Yeah there was alot of tape. I didn't wan't anything to move so that they wouldn't break. Duct tape always comes in handy!LOL! Thankyou for the feedback. I'll make sure I do the same. Thanks, Andrea
Dear Traders,
The plants have all gone out in the mail by priority mail this morning. I hope you are all happy with your plants. I got mine in the ground the day they arrived here and the heat has been hard on them but they look like they will be fine.
It's been like Christmas opening the boxes you have sent me. For some of you I was a little uncertain what you had ultimately decided to throw in the box to me so it was exciting to see what I got.
THANKS again, it's been fun. I have already left positive feedback for anyone who I have received plants from,
Pat
Pat, I got mine today. It made it here just fine! Sent you a D-mail. Thanks again! :-) Andrea
Mine came yesterday, it's sitting in part-shade in a pot for a spell.
Hope you enjoy the plants I sent you!
Beverly
Dear Hydrangea trading friends,
I hope all of your plants are doing WONDERFUL, some of mine look GREAT, one looks a little sad but that was the "wilted runt" of the purchase!
I was outside doing some watering and maintance when I was admiring the plants I have received from you in trades. THANK YOU again, they are doing wonderfully, even those that I worried about for a little while! My EE has a new leaf, as does my Canna. The baby breath has a bloom on it, the lantana has not started to grow but seems to defy the heat! Pestimon never skipped a beat and is thriving in full sun and heat, and its 104 here.
I ended up having to cut the clematis back to ground but it has new growth! The iris seemed settled in, ALL of everything seems to have made except ONE peony that I have not given up hope on.
I hope all you are as pleased with your trades as I have been and I hope we see more of each other here on trades and other forums.
Pat
And the lavender, oregano, BES?????
Hard to say yet, they are in pots and I think they will make it. I certainly hope so cuz I got plans for them!!!
I find that if you transplant peonys around this time and after there normal bloom time, they may look like they're dying. The leaves dry up and it looks like all hope is lost. Put a marker near it because I've had three that looked like that and they surprised me by coming up the next season. They really are very hardy.
The hydrangea is doing well here. I've kept it in a pot to keep a good eye on it until I saw some good growth and will be planting in the ground come fall. Can't wait 'till next year!
Glad one of the baby's breath is flowering for you. I know I sent one that made it through one winter. Next year they will be more impressive. They will eventually take up about 2 feet of space and be about 3 feet tall when in bloom, so give them a little room. The plant itself is about 18 inches tall and the sprays of bloom are another 18. The foxglove and penstemon should bloom for you next year too! Andrea
Thanks for the warning about the peony, I did not intend to give up on it but it does look pretty sad! I was out weeding and cleaning until almost dark, it has been so hot that it is still hot when the sun goes down but I have to do it sometime!!! My Sweet husband does not understand my addiction to the gardening but he will support anything that makes me happy!
I have been stunned at how the penstemon never missed a beat, did not wilt at all etc when planted. I've never had one so this will be fun!
Pat
