Congratulations!

I hate to sound dumb, but is it a female because there is no ruby in the throat? Or do you have a different kind of Hummer there (than what I have here?)

Your correct, females have no Ruby on their throats.

Remember that the first year males do *not* have the ruby throat. That will develope next year. Some of the ones you are seeing now will be this year's babies, and some of them may very well be males - who will probably return to your feeders next year.
