The plant trade used to be so active. What happened? Is it because of the postage rates?
What's going on?
is this a slow plant trade to you? i have never experienced it so to me it is hopping...
I agree, slower than last year, anyway.
Whatcha got to trade, Captain?
I think that maybe some of us are all traded out! I personally need to plant the stuff that I got in this week!!
Hope things pick up for you.
Somebody take my catnip please! Lol.
That might be a hard sell, at least for me...I'm trying to keep the neighborhood felines OUT of my gardens:)
CaptMich,
I did a little research... you know... in the plant information area and came to the conclusion that if you can find a CAT lover you MIGHT be able to unload that catnip, (well except what will KEEP on returning whether you want it or not). I think you are out of luck! Here where I live, I would rather NOT encourage the neighbor's cats to call my flower bed home!
Isn't it getting a little hot to be shipping and trading plants? I'm trying to get as much in place as possible, as quick as possible. It was almost 100 degrees here just last week and then dropped into the 50's during the day this week!
Pat
CaptMicha,
Sorry, I can't help you either. I've got enough trouble keeping the giant black cat from across the street out of my yard as it is...
Maybe you could take some to a local cat-only vet's office as a freebie for their customers? OR, the local cat shelter (hmm, no, that could be total chaos...)
Cpt.,
I agree with Pat -- I have a lot going on here and it's hot. I have no business trading for more, but yes, you're right, postage rates have also curtailed my interest.
I think I heard/read that the flat rate boxes are $9.10. So, I'd have to get at least 2x in value to make it worth my while to trade, and have to figure out what I have that someone else would want....seems like such a chore right now with all I STILL have to plant.
On the other hand, I would love some cats -- the one we have visits regularly and is often seen proudly carrying some sort of small rodent in his mouth. I love it especially because he's carrying it to his mom, not me LOL!
My 2 c,
Suzy
You could always plant the catnip at the perimeter of your property so the invading cats will get so interested in the catnip they'll forget to continue sneaking into your yard...It's a good hypothesis anyway :~D
Lana
Yes, with me it is the postage. It is so out of site that it isn't always worth it. It seems it has doubled.
I took a pound of Cap'n's catnip for $4+ in postage.
My cats have worn down my lone catnip plant to a nub & I fear for its life, much less its procreative genitals. ....
Summer~
I've never laughed so hard in my life:>>>>>
I would love to trade more right now but the heat here makes transplanting a little iffy. I will be prepared to trade more in the fall. Right now I'm going to take care of the trades I have already committed to and then "rest a bit" from trading. I have some hydrangeas that were small and maybe they will be in good shape in the fall for trades. IF not, they will wait until early spring.
Pat
I just mean that I used to see so many faces in here that I only see in the info forums now. And there were trades going on for less than ordinary things like broms, passifloras, etc.
I haven't been on DG for a long time until recently. Long before this postage increase. I think maybe that's the clincher.
It makes me sad to see that the high postage has dampened the plant trade here since so many people had such a passion for it.
It could be the time of year. I'm outside gardening more often than playing on the computer right now.
I think it's a combination of things-drought, heat, postage rates and a several roundups. LOL Everyone is either planting or trying to keep what they have alive.
I was just about to post for a trade though. :)
I've cut back on trading because I need to get caught up on my planting. I have been collecting and propagating plants for several years now but have been keeping them in pots until the roof was replaced and the house painted so as to not disturb beds. Now that that is all done, I have started planning beds and planting some of the potted plants. I know I will have plenty left over for trade in the future but I'm limited right now to any new needs except daylilies.
