I have some blue Louisiana water iris that needs to be thinned out. The pic is from 2 years ago, the year after I planted them. That area is overtaken by the iris now and must be thinned out. They do fine in my regular flower bed without a lot of water. I'm sure they would do better in a bog, but are fine with weekly watering. So fine that they have gone from 3 corms to an area 3 feet wide in 3 years.
Also, I have 100's of old fashioned purple iris out in our field that desperately needs new homes before they meet their demise. They are in an area that is too dry now that we have moved in and the lawn was leveled. They are not happy campers.
Anyone that wants some, send me dmail with your address and what you want. I will send for postage. Will consider trades too. :-)

CLOSED: Louisiana water iris (blue) and old purple iris
You have d-mail.
Folks, I've got plenty so just let me know. If you already have your address in the exchange, you can just drop me a note here of what you want.
Also, If I can't get them dug tomorrow and shipped, I will wait until Sunday to dig them for shipping on Monday so they aren't sitting in some hot warehouse all weekend.
I would LOVE some of the blue Louisiana water iris! If you have a Paypal account I can pay for the postage using it. Otherwise, tell me how much postage to send you. I can hardly wait! It is BEAUTIFUL and I'll share it with my Sister In Law, she has a wonderful pond.
Pat
No problem, Pat. There is plenty. I've added you to the list. Yes, I do have paypal and prefer that, I'll dmail you about that later when I get coordinated better.
cherish,
I would love some of your blue Louisiana water iris. Do you accept Paypal so I can pay you for the postage quicker?
Jane
Do you, perchance have a pic of the purple bearded? Are they dark or light purple? I would like to trade for some of the LA's, but am not too confident about their survival here, and was wondering what the others looked like, so maybe we could trade for some of each?
I can't find a pic in my computer of the iris. I know I took some, but who knows what happened to it. Anyway, this link is a pic of an iris of the right color or very close, but not the right iris. My iris doesn't have the ruffles. I think it would be considered a standard dwarf.

As far as trading, it would depend on what you have. ;-)
Now that I'm testing how much I can get into a box, I'm questioning how short or long the fans should be. Currently I have about 8 to 10 inches on them. If I leave them like that, I can get about 3 lbs in a flat rate box. If I were to cut them shorter, I could put more in the box.
The question is, how short can they be and still stay healthy? Remember that it's still early in the summer and they have not had all summer to soak up the sun. This is the water iris I'm talking about.

Just received some Siberian iris in the mail .The roots were wrapped in moist papertowels and a little plastic baggie wrapped around the roots. The lengths of the fans are about 8-10 inches long.I am not sure if the LA iris would have to be sent the same way or not ?
Probably ?
Wow! That is exactly how I have mine done. If I didn't know better, I would have thought you were describing mine. ;-)
I really hate to get them much shorter than that, I was just wondering if it absolutely won't hurt to do so, then I would.
I remember times when my mom went through the iris bed and just tossed some rejects over the fence assuming they would die. The next year or two we would see them growing quite happily over there in the reject pile.
I would love some. Could you do a combo of the LAs and the bearded for me? I can paypal you also, if you send the details.
And thanks for answering my dmail!
A question has been raised about whether it is too hot to mail plants. For most plants it would be, but iris should be able to withstand the heat better than most. However, they can only stand so much. If anyone on my list feels it may be too hot, please let me know and I can wait until fall to ship to you. It will be easier to establish your plants in cooler weather anyway. Those of you in the north should be fine.

Mine will be fine,I also can Pay pal as soon as you are ready. Not meaning to rush you :-)
I'm canceling the offer on the purple iris. They are just in such bad shape. I dug some of them up last night (hubby helped me.....YAY) and I am embarrassed to ship them out. I'll just put the ones I dug up in better soil and baby them myself and maybe send them later to people who really want them.
Sending dmail, would be interested if you have any left?
ghia_girl, at this point I'm not sure. reply sent. ;-)
Anybody else interested in the water iris, go ahead and dmail me and I'll add you to my secondary list. When I get everybody on the first list taken care of, if I have any left, I'll start on the secondary list.
Hi, I just send the paypal, looking forward to getting the plants in the ground and starting to make my flower bed not look so empty!
Pat
