New strep and episcias blooms today

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I "have" to get ready for the front porch today, but i always get up first to see what is blooming.

***********I have to put in a plug for Gary Mitika Out of Africa.....he has seller's choice of 10 streps for 33.00.....so far the choices are amazingly good choices!!

Kim, here's the GardenWatchdog page for Gary: http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/4750/ and his website is: http://www.garys-out-of-africa.com but I can't get it to load right now - it seems to be down.

They are all beauties but I have to add my ohh! ahh! for Salmon Sunset. I was just looking at it somewhere, maybe Rob's, or maybe it was in the latest Brennan's Orchids auction on eBay. I missed out and had hoped I could just purchase from their web site but they are not offering it there, rats!

Thanks for the link RG, now I have a new place to go look.

You're welcome. He's got some fantastic Streps! Never bought from him, but everyone says he's great. The link is working now, too. :o)

Love your "Pretties" Gail! Really healthy plants! I love 'Christmas Morning' .... a very fitting name for that one with that gorgeous red color!

How's the porch coming?

RG I've noticed your partial to blues in your violets and I would assume in your streps also. Your probably familiar with all of them but just in case....When I was looking at the Brennan's Orchids auction yesterday I thought of you with a Strep they were offering called Heidi....here is the description..."The hybrid strep Heidi is a lovely clear blue with deep purple markings that flow from the throat onto the apron of the blossom." It sounded just beautiful, I bid on it and was promptly out bid and it is another one they are not carrying on their web site, maybe soon.

How sweet of you to think of me! :o) True blue flowers are my weakness, difficult to find, as usually blue really means purple. LOL Heidi is a beautiful one I've admired for a while! http://www.tbg.org.tw/~dollyyeh/strep_heidi_2.jpg I'm sure I've seen it somewhere for sale. I will look around and let you know if I find it.

With Streps, the main thing I like is something to catch my eye other than the overall color of the bloom. Vivid stripes in the throat, obvious netting, things like that. Have you seen 'Nerys'? Lovely! http://www.mooseyscountrygarden.com/hampton-court-flower-show-marquees/streptocarpus-coleus-dibleys-nurseries.html If that doesn't take you straight to the picture, click on the top one, with the Coleus.

Ladies, I am too tired to even post the pics of the episcias............Patty and I started working at 9:30 this morning and 9 big Miracle Grow Soil bags later and needing more for the front porch and back, we quit at 7:00pm!!!!! She has 4 times the energy that i do...........I am going to find an 80 year old gardening friend instead of a strong workaholic young 41 year old....everything aches...........
She made a list for me of what else I need and we are picking up again on Wednesday where we left off today. I will go to a dozen places in Corpus Christi tomorrow to get the rest of what we need to finish.........

Your right RG that is an amazing looking strep! I had Mei Lei from Rob's that was an eye catcher but it has mysteriously disappeared? I have pictures of it from late winter blooming beautifully on my table and now poof, it is just gone. We have a poodle that loves to get on the back of the couch and she knocks my plants down that I don't notice and then I'll find a poor dried up strep behind the couch (does it mean you have too many when you don't notice when one disappears?) I've rescued most of them but this one must have been one that didn't make it. Which means I should treat myself to Heidi or Nery's right??

Mercy gessiegail if you can plant from dawn to dusk and then shop all day tomorrow and then be back at the planting on Wednesday you've get me beat in energy levels by a mile! Too funny about wanting an 80 some year old gardening partner : ))

Hey Gail ... I have the creaky bones of an 80 year old ... we'd probably work well together! ..... Plant a few plants, take an ice tea break .... plant another plant, take a bathroom break .... plant one or two more ..... get to chatting and forget what we were doing!
