I think it is called Perilla frutescens;

Received this as a pass-along from a neighbor at least 20 years ago. She called it sweet basil. When it first comes up it looks just like your picture,raggins. I let it grow because it is such a beautiful foliage contrast.
Have to remove a lot of it as the summer goes on because it can shade out more desirable bloomers. It self-seeds and I never know from year to year where it will be. I love it. Guess some would call it invasive but it is not that hard to just pull it up when you don't want it.

Thank you very much for the link, Jo. We have used it from time to time in salads, just a little, so as not to over power. Mostly, it is just a beautiful color and I hope I never loose it.

Raggins, I have red cannas but particularly like the orange you have. Are your sunflowers blooming yet?

this is my latest project. Going to move the rocks today and begin to plant randomly around the trough. Have 5 baby koi from wallyworld. A new interest. Have great day.
