What a day for a Day Dream quick contest

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

There's a 1960's memory song.

Day Dreams is my personal favorite Double Pink. She is easy going as long as protected from strong winds and likes a bit of shade in the afternoon. This is only a winter bloom, so it doesn't show her full potential like she showed me last fall. Sadly, I lost many pictures in a computer crash, but this winter bloom was still on the camera memory.

I recently did a little air layering on a small piece of Day Dreams. Didn't really think it would work on such a small branch, but it resulted in roots on a small piece. The resulted rooted cutting is only four inches tall from the soil surface. This cutting was from above the Y so it'll probably bloom for you this year.

I will send this out in it's pot to the first person who doesn't currently have a double pink, who posts the name of the person that hybridized it, and who the seedling parent in America was. Must have proper spelling to qualify!!!

Wow, that is the most incredible, generous contest!! No, I don't want your cutting, as I already have Day Dreams, I just wanted to say that this is an awesome offer!!

Monika Gottschalk hybridized it and Shirley Morr was the seedling parent

How about the person who can name the artist of the song way back when? ;o)

Congratulations bettydee - you're the winner. Send me a D-mail with your full name and address. It won't go out until next Saturday because my work hours don't allow for a trip to the post office during the week.

Well, how about that sannajane. I don't have another rooted one .... but I'll send a fresh Day Dream cutting from above the Y to the first person who names the group that sang that song. Will also go out next Saturday.

and the other was Loving Spoonful

AuntAnne - you're the winner of that one. I didn't say the spelling had to be right on the second contest.

It's the "Lovin Spoonful"

What a day for a daydream
What a day for a daydreamin' boy
And I'm lost in a daydream
Dreamin' 'bout my bundle of joy

(and so on)

D-mail me your full name and address and your fresh Day Dream cutting will be sent to you Saturday.

Darn! I was thinking Aretha Franklin with "Day Dreamin' and I'm thinking of you", etc.

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Yikes .... with all those artists day dreaming .... who's getting any work done?! LOL No wonder I have to work so hard. Everyone else is spending their time day dreaming.

I can squeeze one more cutting out, so BDunn ... send me your address too.

That's all, so goodnight for now.

I did not know the answers but it was a lot of fun watching and so very kind you to do this.

Thanks for the fun, Joan

Just got the cuttings and they are in the water, about to go add a little hydrogen peroxide. They're a little wilted but should perk up fine by the time I get back from town. Thank you again.

Mary, my baby arrived today! Thank you!! Not a single dead leaf in this heat. I ran water through the pot until the water coming out the bottom was cool. I'm keeping it inside today to recover. Then slowly acclimate it to our morning sun.
