Schultz' Take Root

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Can this be used on herbs, or is it only for non-edible plants?

Northern, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wouldn't use the Shultz on any edibles. I would only use organic fertilizer and compost. I use fish and seaweed fertilizer.
edited to add- Are you asking about a rooting hormone/product or a fertilizer? I am only familiar with the Shultz liquid plant food. Sorry if my answer was addressing the wrong product.

A friend was asking about the rooting compound. I have never used it for anything but flowers and trees, so I have no idea. Thought I'd ask here, but guess no one else has used it either.

I have not used rooting compound on herbs but wonder what the label states? Perhaps some one will come along with a more definite answer, sorry.

Doesn't look likely, but thanks for the input. And DUH! when in doubt, read the instructions!!!

but what do they say? I am curious now...

"It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, eitherdirectly or through drift. Only protected handlers may bein the area during application. For any requirements specific to your State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulations."

Sounds like a definite "no" to me if it's classified under Pesticide regs.!

Who would have thunk it... : )

Ahh... Rooting hormone is a very very dangerous compound. However, if used crrectly, it' very very helpful. You are only suppose to put it on end of stems and rooting area. Unless you're planning to put it on the leaves and leave it in an windy area, it should be okay. After application of the rooting hormone, the cutting should be planted immediately. Basically it's not okay to apply the hormone and leave the cutting hanging around where someone else may come in contact with it or dip the entire cutting in the hormone and plant it in a windy place where the hormone on the unplanted portion can become airborne and drift off.

As for using it on edibles, it's used to help plants develop roots. Unless you're planning to use the hormone on root vegatables, I think other type of edibles are okay. Let's say it this way, I've asked about it with the companies themselves and they said it's safe. And so far, I'm still healthy too... But out of curiosity, what type of edibles herbs were you thinking of rooting? As far as I know most herbs are fairly easy to grow and not worth the rooting with cutting dippedin rooting hormone...
