Remember back when I found all those fantastic unlabeled mini avs............well, something weird is happening.....look at all the red that is showing up on new plants which don't look like their mothers at all.
In fact, look at the green leaf of the mother leaf with babies coming up ....the babies are very variegated....sometimes the leaves are more round as in two pots.....and some are more elongated in shape???
Maybe this is a good thing that they didn't come with credentials!!!!
Mini violets are changing foliage color?????
Gail, I've found that often times the babies will start out differently than the mother plant. Sometimes they stay much more variegated, and sometimes they grow out of it. Leaf shape as well, tends to change from babyhood to adulthood. You're not doing anything wrong, and you're plants aren't either. :o) They're lovely!
Let me go see if I can find a couple examples to take a picture of for you.
Here's Trinket o' Pink. The mom plant on the left has hardly any variegation at all, the baby on the right is almost completely white. I have no idea why it did this, but I had another baby from the same mom leaf that was quite white - not so much as this one, but much more so than the mother. (Oh, and I dropped the baby a few days ago, that's why the leaves look so bad.)
I love what is happening......also love your very white one......as much as I love variegated leaves,I wish all mine would do this!!!!
There are two or three plants in that pot, but I'm terrified to separate them. It is growing very, very slowly, which I attribute to it's having so little green and I'm afraid they'd all die if I tried to separate them. Til they get much bigger, they'll stay together. If ever they get large enough to separate, I'll send one to you. :o)
Yan Selena (or Ian Selena, depending on where you look), Moon Goddess, I believe it is. Lovely plant. I have one that almost died and is coming back from nothing! :o)
I am horrible this morning......we have a new minister coming today..............just not in the mood to socialize.......
leaving to run over to Aransas Pass and Ingleside....good nurseries there. Phughes, a DGer and a friend of mine close by, is coming over tomorrow to help me with my front porch..........what a mess as I have been addicted to my gessie family.......she is so nice to help me that I want to have everything ready and clean when she comes....we are going to pot up bigger pots combining a lot things....including 30 coleus that are still in their 4" pots!!!! LOL
I did start cleaning yesterday morning so there is hope ahead....
Oh gessiegail your porch is just awesome! Love that tile floor, beautiful and yet you can hose it right off. What a wonderful work area. I am so envious of all of you that have screened in porches or Florida rooms or any other outside areas for plants. Just the fact that so many of you can put plants outside at all has me wanting to move somewhere that stays warmer!
Well, i woudn't blame you for wanting out of zone 3, but please you don't want our summers I promise you......
I lived in zone 6 for 11 years and every winter i would get so depressed from the months and months of snow.......that is when I decided to get by in Texas somewhere.
The only way I could stay there was to fill every nook and cranny in the entire house with gro-lights............the children skiied all the time (of course Mom went, too) but couldn't wait to get back in the house to start growing again (LOL)
I Love your Front Porch Gail! I would dearly love to have a porch on the front of the house which faces East and is a great area for plants! I have a little small Courtyard type thing in the front of my house, but would love one of those Southern Homes with a Wrap Around Porch! I'd have hanging baskets hanging from the rafters and container plants everywhere too!
I do like that Tile Paver Floor on your porch too! Just makes it so homey! I see you have the table & chairs too .... just waiting for a sit down with a tall glass of sweet tea! Aaaaah! Do you have a fan out there? I have a little fan in my Florida Room, but as hot as it has been that poor little fan hasn't made much of a difference. I want a ceiling fan out on my covered deck so bad, but the roof is aluminum! I'm trying to get my hubby to take a look at what our next door neighbors did though on their back porch that has an aluminum roof. He took some type of long heavy metal pipe, ran it up the side of the house, attached it with some kind of brackets to the cement block .... then at the ceiling level, attached another metal pipe coming out from that and hung the ceiling fan from the metal pipe with all the electrical wiring going down inside the pipe! Sure makes it a lot nicer in the summer time! It gets so hot here sometimes that I can't stay out on my deck very long. We have the side of the house that blocks on one side and a 20' shed that blocks the other side, so we don't get much air moving out there! Today our high was 94 and the humidity was way up there too .... I just could not be out there for more than ten minutes at a time! I did have a couple of little plants that needed repotting, so I would go out and do that and then come right back inside to the air conditioning!
Anyway, I love the looks of your porch! I hope you will post some more photo's after you and your friends get finished with all your potting up of plants!
Lin, I have electricity out there, but there is always a strong breeze......it comes out of the SE all day long and is quite cool any time of the day....I don't need any fans.....we discussed it and knew that I wouldn't need any......I have some extra ones left over from the house....I counted the rooms wrong (tee hee)....if it gets too hot this summer, I will put them up.
I just mowed the yard getting ready for the Spurs tonight!!!!
Yes, I am very excited that Patty is coming in the morning.....I am so short and the ceilings out on the porch are quite high when you walk out of the house......she is more than 20 years younger and is almost 6 feet tall....we laugh all the time about why we shop together....she can reach the tallest shelves everywhere we go (LOL)
I don't think that bringing electricity outside is a big deal...????? I am having electricity and plumbing taken to the storage unit.....but not now....too hot out there anyway this time of the year.....
Yes, I will posts pictures as i am so excited to finally get it potted up.....and hanging....
Oh, I know it's gonna look so nice .... can't wait to see the pic's!
........ back to the NBA Playoff Game on t.v.
GO SPURS!
