Lily Leaf Beetle (Lilioceris lilii)
Gosh wallaby1, I didn't realize the lily beetle was even in the UK. It hasn't made its way north to us YET. I'm just dreading the day. Do you have a lot of lilies? I feel sorry for anyone that has the lily beetle.
Hi broots, yes it got to me I think in 2005, I found a mere dozen or so then, about a hundred the next year and over 200 last year! This year seems to have slowed a little, only got 80 so far, and I do count them so I know how well they are increasing or not.
I put mine under foot, of course I apologise when I do it but it is necessary. I keep a watch for them, good exercise bending down to look under leaves, lol, they tend to come when it's hot. Some eggs escape notice too so you need to keep a watch for the grubs.
I didn't have a huge number of lilies until this year, I grew a lot from seed last year and many are flowering this year. I need my head read, lol, but I'm more determined than they are!
