Off Topic ... Thought some would like to see the Shuttle

(Zone 1)

This is off topic, but thought some of y'all might like to see a photo of the Shuttle Atlantis which just launched from Kennedy Space Center!

We get a clear view of all the launches from our front yard, so watched and took a couple of photos. Unfortunately the power lines are in view in this first one!

Last one: We should have gone to the Beach to watch, it's a much nicer view from the shore, but we forgot again, so just watched from our front yard as we do most times!

Yep! Hubby being in Aviation, we have always been interested in the Space Program and Love watching the Launches! KSC is about 45 minutes South of us and it's really AWESOME to see a night launch, especially from the beach! The entire sky lights up with fire! Really a Beautiful sight!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Lin,
How exciting!!! Love the space program. Been to KSC once years ago and NASA several times. My twin sis used to live west on Nasa 1 Rd about 6-8 miles from the center. Very cool. Had an aunt and uncle who used to live in Melbourne and we were on the beach one night when a satelite was launched. You never forget something like that. I need to get my little ones down their for a launch one of these days. They watched the video of the launch tonight on CNN.com. I could go on...
Thanks for the pics.

I can also see it from here in Hardee Co., in the middle of the state. I'm probably over 100 miles away.

I like it when it comes back, it cuts across sometimes from Ft. Myers area, across my house, and over to the Cape. I saw it once just before it landed. The sonic boom rattles my windows, and if I'm not expecting it, it scares me. lol : )

Laura ... Glad you enjoyed the pic's! It is an Awesome sight to see, especially at night time! I remember back in the early 70's before the Shuttle Program, before there was a Space Shuttle. I was visiting my parents in Merritt Island and at a High School Football Game (my youngest sister was still in High School at the time) and there was a Sattellite being launched at the Cape. I was turned around backwards in the stands watching the launch and everyone thought that was funny ... I wasn't interested in the Football Game, bue in Awe of that Rocket going up!

My husband teaches in Avaition at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and he's been to KSC quite a few times with students over the years, not recently though. I went with him once many years ago before the Shuttle Program began. We've talked about going back and will eventually!

Yep, Lucy .... I've heard that on a clear day, folks from many miles to the North can even see it clearly! That Sonic Boom is a bit un-nerving even when you expect it .... I wait, knowing it's coming, but it still about knocks my socks off ... windows and doors rattling ... and the cats running for cover! LOL.

It sounds like a couple of bombs going off sometimes. I try to remember when it's suppose to happen. Now, watch me forget this time. lol : )

Neat pictures, Lin! Thank you for posting them! I watched the launch on the internet. Much less exciting than your view, I know, but I still think it's fascinating. :o)

junglebob posted pictures last year of the view of the shuttle going up behind his house and I thought it was the neatest thing to be able to see that from home. I haven't seen him in ages...

Cool pictures Lin . I live only a few blocks from Johnson Space Center where they do the controlling. I would love to see a lift off. I had to watch it here on the Nasa channel . :O(
If I lived that close I would be having a lift off BBQ.
Thanks for sharing them with us.
