Taking Maya or P & C cuttings

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

I'm moving in a couple of weeks and I want to take cuttings. It's either a Maya or Peaches & Cream brug. The poor thing had a hard time getting start when I bought it as a seedling 2 years ago. It was potted at the beginning them last spring I put it in the ground and it didn't do much. Of course, died out in winter (in my zone), but it really doing well this year. Shes' about 3 ft tall and very full. I don't see any buds yet. I know cuttings of either of these are harder to get started so I thought I'd ask for advice. I don't have a problem with any other cuttings, but I tried to get cuttings for the last 2 years of this. Maybe I'll have a better chance since it's eary summer and last time I tried to do it in the winter. The plant is too big for me to dig up and move since I want to take so many others so I thought cuttings might work. Any suggestions? How can I tell the difference between a Maya & Peaches & Cream? Thanks all for advice!

Are you SURE you can't dig it up? It sounds like it is close to blooming, if it were me, I'd opt to dig it if at all possible. You sure would be months ahead of the game if you can get some rootball.
You can take cuttings from about anywhere, but cuttings from above the Y will bloom sooner.
As for telling them apart, you might use photos in the plant files to identify it. Good luck!

Maybe I'll give it a try. Worst case scenario is that I break a limb and that will be my cutting. I have so many plants I want to take with me and the car only holds so many after adding 2 dogs for the 2 day trip. Makes it even worse in this summer heat.
