Fantastic shot!

This was a 'set-up' shot...cool their heels in the fridge for about 10 minutes, then you can pick them up and place them wherever you need to...blow in their faces, and they'll rear up in a defensive position and hold it for a few seconds. This is true for the hard-shelled beetles.

This was taken inside my house with my handy-dandy piece of driftwood that I keep in my camera bag...and sitting on my piano bench.

I was absolutely thrilled to get this guy...they're becoming uncommon in these parts.

Ah hah!! .. I jes knew it!

The poor feller was set-up, and to make matters worse: he was then 'framed'!!
(in the viewfinder, of course) .. heehee ..

Xcellent captures, Mel ..

I actually caught him the night before under the lights.

There's lots of great bugs that come to the lights at night...it's just not the best conditions to photograph them. So they get a free night in Chez Cool-Whip waiting for daylight and better conditions.

Then, I turn them loose.
