Overwintering Wandering Jew

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

Last fall I planted purple wandering jew in my beds and when fall came, dug it up with the dahlias and cannas and overwintered all of them in plastic grocery sacks, still in dirt, on the basement floor. Well, the roots survived, and I replanted them outdoors with the dahlias, and they are off to a great start...Lovely ground cover.

I do like the wandering jew for an accent to the garden...when i dug it up last fall I planted it in several the pots of bananas, brugs, and palm... I also have the striped wandering jew...Lol forget names..
The one thing i noticed this year is several survived winter that I failed to dig up in the beds...

All of the Tradescantia are very root hardy, as long as the ground doesn't freeze. Still, I am surprise that some of yours made it, you must have had a mild winter (as far as the plants are concerned).

Frost is not a big problem here, these all made it at the Leu Bot Garden>
