Hibiscus

Bruce, MS(Zone 7a)

I purchased 3 double yellow hibiscus (rosa-sinensis) this year from Home Depot. The nursery tag says that they are hardy to 0 to -10F. The problem is these plants look a whole lot like tropical hibiscus that I have had in the past and generally they won't live through the winter in zone 7 where I live. Does anyone know anything about this plant? I think Home Depot has a one year warranty on their shrubs so I guess I can take them back if they die.

Think of all the poor people that bought them and planted in their yards thinking they'd see them again next year!

Thanks for your help everyone. If they look really good at the end of the summer I might dig them up and bring them inside. If not, HD can give me my thirty dollars back!

Hey it depends on how long it's freezing. I work at a nursery that sells hibiscus, double yellows included. They can survive short freezes, but will receive damage to the leaves and soft wood. We had four or five freezes this past winter, but only for a few hours each time. Nothing happened to them except dead leaves.

Yeah, I'm not sure what its like up there, but home depot has a one year warranty on there plants. Save the tag and if it dies they will have to refund his money.
