New Coop Going Up

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Dh is building this coop for the new chicks we hatched and bought. It's still in progress. Since we are not going to let them free range in the summer he's building a nice area for them to go out in. There will be 2 boxes for nesting and sleeping on the outsides of the coop. More pictures when completed.

The only eggies at the auction were quail, pheasant and guinnies, so I didn't get any eggs. But I did bid and win 6 black chicks, I have to figure out what they are, I think a couple might be barred rock. I'm excited about that, I've been wanting a barred rock hen for a couple of years now. I'm going to the auction again tomorrow evening, I think it can be as addicting seeing all the beautiful chickens and talking to all the wonderful chicken people like myself.

Tracey, only 2 broken is very good, it's not easy shipping eggs in the mail. Good luck on your hatch, babies are so much fun to watch being born.

We put a division between the to sections to keep the Roosters from fighting with each other. These are my ameraucans that were born on April 16th. They are so beautiful. So far 2 of the eight are crowing, LOL. I'm hoping for 6 hens, I guess time will tell.

Cathy, what an impressive piece of work. Congrats to you, and my compliments to your husband. Good to have help. :)

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, he did a great job on the coop. The chicks are very happy in there. Now he needs to build me something to put all my little Banties in. I don't want to mix them with my bigger chicks.

DH came up with this on his own, he has a very creative mind, I have my Dr. Seuss coop he made for my silkies, I'll try and find a picture of that. The new coop cost $0, he saves every piece of board, scraps of everything. He has a pile on the top of our property, in the sheds, he's very frugle, LOL.

Here is a link to the Dr. Seuss Coop he built.
