Does anyone have S. tubiflora to trade for blue Achimenes?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

A few months ago, I began a part-time job in the horticulture department with the Jacksonville (Florida) Zoo & Gardens. One of the many treats of working at the zoo gardens is getting to see new and unusual plants growing that I've not previously seen. The Sinningia tubiflora recently bloomed and I feel I now must have some for my garden:

I have blue-flowering Achimenes longiflora

to trade, or I can offer a selection from my tropical plants or other things from my garden:

BTW - we currently have about 2 nursery grown Sinningia sellovii

in 1 gal pots for sale at the zoo. I think they are around $8 retail, but I can get them with my 25% employee discount and ship plants-for-postage, if anyone is interested.

I have a pot of tubiflora potatoes (the tubers look that way), and would be happy to trade for something (not achimenes), but I am hesitant to dig them up right now as they haven't had much growing time this season. These tubers are new to me, and I've already forced them to abort the growth they started indoors during the winter, so they are a little stressed. So if you are still looking in the fall, look me up....

Sounds good, keyring. I'm in no hurry. Gardening, among other things, has taught me that good things come in time with proper care. When you are ready to trade, I'll let you know what plants I have from which you can freely choose.

We discussed the S. tubiflora today as one of our "plants of the week" for the zoo horticulture section. It apparently took about 2 years for the plants to develop in the ground and first flowered this year within the past week or so.

Jeremy,
Would you be interested in trading achimenes for episcias?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Hi, Snowrose. Sorry to take so long to reply about a possible trade. I wanted to make sure I could get some Achimenes stabilized in a pot before offering to follow through. I do have some sprigs of it growing in a 4" pot. I've tried shipping it bare root before and it didn't do well. I would be happy to trade for the episcias, or you can just pay postage for the Achimenes, if you prefer. I'm trying to limit my tender tropical houseplants as I am overwhelmed by just trying to stay up with my 1/2 acre and all the plants I've crammed into it, especially during this prolonged drought, but I am intrigued by the episcias!

I'll send you a D-mail with the above info to see if you still want the Achimenes.

Jeremy
