Today after a storm, I was walking around to see the garden and what flowers had opened, when I spotted (and I mean spotted) something on the hoya on the porch table that didn't belong there. This male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was holding on to the hoya plant after bonking into the kitchen window. Guess those window alert maple leaves are not doing the job.
I sat with him and told him to please live. He was too stunned to react to my being there except to open his eyes a bit wider.
Close Encounter of the nervous kind
That's not the pic I tried to post. I better reboot!
Gosh something's amiss with my thumbnails.
I had 2 more pics to post, too. Anyway, to finish the story, I decided I needed advice and when I went to the MA Audubon website they said that stunned birds may have some brain swelling which can take a few hours to subside. So I looked out once more and he was gone. Yay!! Guess he just grazed the window. Maybe those window alert decals do work afterall.
Sorry! I guess I should give up now!
may not be a sapsucker there, but a nice pic anyway. Glad the bird seems OK. I have a regular sapsucker customer in my yard in winter.
Boojum, those are all great pics! I'm so glad to hear that your little guy made a recovery ( I had a very BAD baby bird day today) so I feel better that one of our feathered friends made it back to the sky.
Also, is that Daniel Deronda in the last pic? or fourth, fifth and sixth pic :>) Very pretty clematis.
No it's Ken Donson. Do you think they know each other?? :)
I did manage to post the last 2 pics here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/731712/
Maybe cousins lol and congats on getting those last two pics up. It's too bad a bird has to rattle his brain, but what great pics!! (and he ended up ok)
Those are great pics boojum; glad the little guy was okay.
What a gorgeous little bird! I'm happy it turned out okay, and I'm glad you had your camera. Lovely photos!
Wow, beautiful pictures Boojum! Thanks for shsaring them with us. :-)
