Ruby Glow Passifloras

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

I got a real good bargain at the local nursery on a passie called Ruby Glow. Now with my usual hindsight, I am wondering if this cultivar will attract butterflies!! Has anyone had any experiences with p. Ruby Glow and GF's? The reason I am asking is because the first passie that I bought was an Edulis that I had for six months and no GF's. Then I added a Lavender Lady and within six weeks there were cats. I am expanding my number of vines and climbers.

Thanks,

Hi Chuck!
What a beautiful cultivar of passiflora! I haven't done any deep research on that var. of passiflora yet. The name is:
Passion Flower, Passionflower
Passiflora phoenicia 'Ruby Glow'
Here is what DG has so far..

Now that we have the scientific name of the cultivar we can dig deeper on whether it serves as a host ppant for frits and longwings.

Chuck, no personel experiance with that one,but you'll know soon enough.Isn't that funny about Edulis,I have I think 3 differant cultivars of Edulis and They will go for months and no GF eggs at all then I will get hit all at once with about 25 eggs on one but not the others and if I don't move the cats fast they will mow it down. Then they will hit the other one.I've got a section of chain link fence about 20 feet long that is covered with a purple sort of lavender passion flower I can never remember the name of it,but the GF's love it .So I just collect them off the Edulis and move them over to the chain link fence and let nature take it coarse.

Dear Deb,

I can tell that you did a lot of research for this passie. Thanks, I had never seen the flowers before you provided the file in Plant Files.

Dear Donlaclair,

Thanks for setting me straight about edulis. I plan on rotating caterpillars between the four passies I have now so not all of them are completely eaten up by cats at once. I had several GF's last summer and winter but it has been about three weeks since I have seen these butterflies. We will see if it can be done.

Thanks,

Chuck
