Looking for suggestions to put in 2 permanent brick containers @ the front door of a friend. They are on either side of the entrance area. About 3 ft high, and planting area about 18 inches wide.
Sun til about 1 pm. I was thinking of lavender. These are for people whose plants are all tough survivors as they get sporatic attention.
Evergreen plants in brick containers
Spiral junipers ,but not sure if enough sun. Use fake plants topiaries if they don't intent on watering them properly.
Lavender sounds lovely; imagine how pretty it will smell as they enter and leave.
Lavenders would be very pretty but I'm not sure if they'll be happy with just morning sun, they love full sun even in hot climates so in the PNW with only morning sun they may not do as well. I would suggest some dwarf gardenias, but those might be a little too much work for people who just want to ignore the plants and have them look beautiful. Nandinas are pretty low maintenance, check if they're invasive in your area first though before you plant them. I've had luck with Agapanthus in relatively shady areas, they do fine in full blazing sun too but at my old house I had a bunch that got less sun than this area and they still bloomed fine. They're low maintenance too, only catch is they're not especially interesting when they're not in bloom.
Last week I would have agreed with you but I was a docent on a garden tour recently and there was a huge, probably 8' in diameter, lavender bed - in the shade. The owner told me it gets sun late in the afternoon. Who would have thought.........
You never know! All I know is I have several lavenders in my yard and some get more sun than others and the ones with the most sun are definitely looking the best.
That is how it is in my yard too but, as you said, you never know.......:-))))
