My friend's raised pond

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I got inspired from my friend. This is his second pond. The first one is the plastic-lined ground-level pond. I visited him yesterday for something. Had the camera with me so thought of sharing here. He has used a large bowl that was lying with him .. actually it is a mould for making dish antennae (he's an engineer). He kept it on a secure surface, sand and all, built up a brick wall around, placed stones, kept a liner in place and filled with water.

Very nice idea, indeed! I have seen those large satellite dishes that people have and have often thought they would make a nice pond. Thanks for sharing that one.

It looks like there are bags of some kind under the liner. Was that to cushion it? There seems to be quite a wide edge on the top. If it is stable enough that would be a great place to sit to get an up close look at the pond and it's inhabitants. It never fails to amaze me that we gardeners can be so creative when it comes to "recycling" Thank you for sharing with us.

Yes, those bags you see there poking out are plastic bags he has used for cushioning. He has just piled bricks around the perimeter, ran a mesh around it so that they wont move and fastened it. My friend likes temporary or "unpermanent" structures. We can sit on the edge and watch the pond, but we have to make sure we are not pushing the bricks in! He has put the mesh only on the outside perimeter. The width of the edge you ask is 9 inches which is the length of the brick. He has piled them one beside the other to about 4 or 5 rows. I was there when he had just completed that stage.
