Which variety of dill do you think is the best?

Claremore, OK

I have been growing "Long Island Mammoth" for several years now and it reseeds for me and sometimes I get two crops in one year. This year I'm growing some "Fernleaf," also. Today I saw a seed packet of "Bouquet" dill and I thought I'd try that one.

If anyone has grown different varieties of dill, which one did you like the best and why?

With the dill you grow what do you do/make with it?

A lot of people with small gardens or containers like fernleaf dill because it doesn't get very big. (I sell a lot of it to home gardeners!) I don't think it has much flavor though. I've grown Bouquet and Super Dukat along with Mammoth and love them. Bouquet isn't quite as tall as the other two. But it's probably the first variety I ever grew, been around a long time. Good flavor, reseeds well. I'm giving a kitchen wreath workshop with a friend later this summer using dill as the base for the small wreaths. I'm growing Bouquet in mass for the class as it's a nice variety to work with. I like the good strong flavor of Super Dukat so I'm also growing that one for my own use. I love fresh dill weed in salads, especially potato salad.

I've grown Bouquet and Super Dukat also...along with LI Mammoth. I like them all, but currently have the LI Mammoth...(for the last couple of years) All are great dills.

I've never grown the fernleaf.

I like the flavour of the Dukat types of dill best. My DH hates dill, but seems to tolerate this variety better when I use it ("it's good for you dear"). :)

Is anyone aware of a dill that will grow in our part of So Cal? Our retired pastor tried sowing dill the last two years. I tried it this year and we both came up with nothing. If anyone knows of a dill tha is likely to grow, I really would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Chuck

Well, I now have Fernleaf, Bouquet, and Long Island Mammoth growing. I just found some seeds for Dukat. I guess if I get Super Dukat I'll have them all covered.

The LI Mammoth that reseeded on it's own is really large this year.

You have a very nice selection of dill! Good for you!!!

Sorry I took so long to respond but circumstances have prohibited me from doing so.

Let us all know how the dill plants work out!!

Thanks for sharing this with us...

Chuck
