Hello Everyone!! Good to see some familiar names over here!!
It was suggested I check with ya'll regarding Passifloras.
My first question is shameless begging - if anyone has any to share (trade or for postage) would you dmail me please?
Second question is what method have you found works best to root cuttings of these beauties?
When I saw photos of these gorgeous blooms, I was completely enthralled...when realized they attract butterflies...well, I decided I "needed" some for my back yard. LOL Thanks to all that can help me with either and/or both questions!!
Passifloras....
Chantell - Are you looking for plants or seeds?
Becky - I was looking for plants but with proper guidance :) I'd be willing to give seeds a shot. I seem to be the only person alive who can't get moonflowers to grow from seed LOL....yet I have cactus blooming in a Virgina yard...go figure. What kind do you have - or what was the parent, I guess would be a better question?
I have some seeds for Passion Flower Vine (Passiflora incarnata). The seeds came from Deb. My vines haven't produced any seeds yet. Hopefully, later this year. It is a host plant for the Fritillaries and Zebra Longwing Butterflies.
If you are interested in trying to grow them from seed, d-mail me. I don't have very many left but would be more than happy to send you some. :-)
Becky,
Youa re so sweet!!! Let me look through my dmails (esp. since you only have a little...I'd feel bad depleting anyone's supplies) to see who is sending me what type. Memory is not a strong point for me...LOL
Chantell - If YOU need seeds, I can share what I have. I have 12 large vines growing along my fence. Sooner or later they are going to produce some fruit and seeds. So I am soooo not worried about sharing the seeds I have currently. D-mail me!!!! :-)
Chantell, I've rooted a piece of my Passie by laying a stem in a little trench held down with a rock and it rooted. I'll try it again and let you know.
Rox - I should try that! I could root a bunch for everyone! :-) School's almost out, so I'll have more time to try such ideas! I'll keep y'all posted if I do!
Try it Becky! Don't cut the stem until it's rooted, it can get nourishment from the mother plant until it's ready to be cut.
I think it's called ground layering, similar to air layering.
Thanks, Rox! I will give it a try and see if it works for me here.
ctindell,
That would be great, neighbor...I'll dmail you!!
Chantell
