'Blue Heaven' has her first bloom!!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I absolutely never dreamed that this almost unopened bloom could be this pretty.....I took the two stolons she had on her and traded with a friend...I think that is what made her bloom....there is one more baby stolon and I am going to pot up just for safekeeping in case this one croaks or something!!!!
Can't believe I can get this happy over one little bloom

************ you wonder why all my pics are always on a bed somewhere...I have filled the rooms with gro-light stands....no room for any extra furniture (LOL)

Isn't it gorgeous, Gail? When you asked about mine, I was so hoping yours would bloom soon, because pictures don't do them justice. I'm so happy for you! :o) I love the fuzzy leaves on this one, too.

I know....you really cannot show in a picture how wonderful the bloom really is.....I have almost finished taking off all stolons for now on episcias...I am convinced that they bloom better when they are removed!!!!
chat later,
gail

I haven't started removing the stolons from mine yet, but I just might get around to it today. ;o) I'll let you know what I come up with. I would love for mine to bloom. Can't remember which one it was, but I had one in a terrarium that bloomed a single bloom. It was so bright I thought someone must have plugged it in! LOL It was truly a neon color.

Oh Wow Gail! I have never seen a photo of a bloom, much less a bloom in person of this plant! I have a nice sized one that I got from Starfly/Eunice a few months ago, but it hasn't bloomed yet. And, I have a very small one I got from Allison in my Bingo Prize Box! PLEASE tell me what plant food you use for all your Gessies! I have been using Optimara AV food lately, but would change to something different if I could get blooms like you do!

Here are mine: I haven't even seen stolons yet!

edited to say: Maybe I don't even know what the stolons look like?! I am assuming you mean like the long tendril things on other Episcia's?

Lin, here is a photo of the only stolon on her right now....she did have two

Remember I just started this addiction, but I think the plants cannot absorb as much fertilizer as I use if I didn't keep them under strong shop lights with the full spectrum lights going 14 hours a day.

I basically use FV-11 and Schultz 8-14-9 liquid most of the time....then when I am getting impatient for more blooms, I will carefully (based on instructions on the granular food) feed them this Schultz 20-30-20 ......but not if they are really dry....that is a pretty potent fertilizer but I only use a little less than 1/4tsp. per gallon of water..

I wish you could take a closer shot at your Blue Heaven for us.....

Ok ... I will go get a closer shot ... just can't post it right away. I'm on my laptop and don't have the software on here to download pic's. Hubby has the keyboard torn apart right now on the desktop machine, keys were sticking badly, so he tore it apart to clean it ... had each and every little letter key off! He's putting it back together now, so I should be able to hook up my camera within an hour to download some more photo's!

Ok ... Hubby fixed keyboard and I just downloaded more pic's. Here's a close up of the entire plant:

I guess it pays to "Pay Attention" ... I moved the leaves back and I think this "stem" is actually a Stolon? Am I correct? And, should I remove it and pot it up for another plant?

you're both doing really well with it!

These types are tricky for me, and I am about to give up. They thrive during 1.5 months of the year, and the rest of the time they hate me :P

If it were me, I'd leave that new growth on the plant - it's very close to the main stem so it will probably grow to make the plant nice and bushy.

Yours is really like 3 plants Lin....it looks like...........pretty......

I've checked it again and it seems to be one plant, with two thick stems and the one thinner one that I'm thinking is a stolon and then another little plant with leaves right at the surface of the soil. Upon inspection, they seem to all be coming from one base. Is that possible for an Espicia? I guess I could remove all of the soil to be certain, but I hate to mess with it! If that long thinner stem is a stolon would it be best to remove it? I am inclined to just leave it be so I don't kill the entire plant!

I am like Keyring....take when it is a baby like the picture I shot of the stolen under the leaf......or just leave your whole plant alone....it is nice..........and will bloom for you....just wait!!!!
