On May 2nd I made my first Terrarium and Planted 2 AV leaf's The Names I have no idea it was just to see what would happen as of June 1st I looked close atit and this is what I found. Can they grow that fast in a Terrarium? If that is true I maybe staating all my plants like that I will send 2 pic so you guys can see I am pretty impressed. The 1st is to show the Terrarium the 2nd was pretty close to see it is in a Terrarium

Has anyone stated AV in a Terrarium?
Before I set up a light stand for them, I started a lot of leaves in this old aquarium/terrarium (shown here with newly up-potted plantlets, I think). It works well!
Plantcrazii and others have set up larger terrariums with blooming AVs in them... and several people (including me) have little AVs and other gessies in wine glass "terrariums."
Isn't it fun to see those first little "ears" poking up?!? Good growing!
Does it take a shorter time tham starting in water or perlite or even soil They took a short time to come up. Its been 4 weeks I started but I am sure that it might be only 2 1/2 to 3 weeks when they poped out Thats for your answer

For me, humidity around the leaves and heat (both of which are provided in a terrarium) will speed "pop up time." But it can also just vary with the variety, or maybe with the time of year, or with other factors that I haven't figured out yet LOL. I've had "ears" in as little as 2 weeks, but I've also successfully propagated from leaves that took 10 weeks to produce a little plantlet.
Starting in water is something I've had little luck with, although I know some people swear by it (and I think they add soil gradually to the water so the "water roots" can adjust). Some people root in trays of perlite.
Here's my favorite method of starting leaves.... clear plastic salad containers, with holes in the top for ventilation and holes in the bottom for drainage.
Well I just started some new one today and I am going to keep track and see what happens. I did plant a bunch of leaves in perlite on May 1st nothing so far.I will just keep growing to I find the right one for me I liked the idea of a wine glass so thats what I started it in we will see
Thanks again for the infor

I got an old aquarium from freecycle. I put down a whole bunch of leaves from velvet leaf in little clay pots. I than placed the little clay pots in solo cups with gravel on the bottom. I turn the lights on for 5 or 6 hours each day and keep them slightly moist. I just checked yesterday and they all have roots starting to grow, no mouse ears yet though. I figure it's just a matter of time.
I am very happy, I'm not the most patient person so seeing roots was great.
Thanks,
Sue
