angel trumpets

Please tell me how to propagate these beautiful plants. I have been told to cut a long branch and simply lay it on some loose soil and cover with mulch/leaves come Fall. Come Spring, pull back the mulch and there will be rooted growth ready to transplant. I was wondering how long of a stem should I cut these limbs into? Might I just take a limb and cut it into several pieces to "root". I have several neighbors asking for rooted plant. Love these plants next to Hostas. Has anyone seen the variegated leafed angel trumpet? Thanks to all for any information you can pass along.

lengths laid and partially buried in a pot will form new roots and sprouts where the old leaf nodes are. A very common way of propigating them is placing a cutting 6 to 12 inches long into water. Using an inexpensive aquarium pump with an airstone in the water really increases the oxygen and reduces risk of the cutting rotting. Using a bubbler like this seems to me to be the fastest way to root them. They for white nubs then the roots begin. You can plant in a small pot any time after the white nubs form but I wait until they have a decent root mass... doesn't take long.
