Seems like we've had a spate of bad luck here in the ol'chicken forum, what with all the chicken eating, etc. How about a silly chicken pic thread to lighten the mood? I'll start...
and if you don't have pix, you can cation the ones on the thread!
There's always room for one more......
Funny Chicken PIx
Those are so cute! Love the fuzzy butt and I swear you can see that rooster's tonsils. LOL
Cottage Rose, you crack me up!
All the chicken shots are great! I don't have a good chick pic but a good chick (different kind of chick) happening. I am raising 3 lovebirds, (it was 4 but Mary one of cats LOVIES lil wings) one poor lovie had been attacked twice before I figured out to put thier lil brooder in a dog kennel for safe keeping) so the three have been doing so well, not weaning off of handfeeding but fat and healthy. So I figured the worst was over. I have raised a lot of parrots and my cats couldn't care less about them, those tiny lil birds they were fasinated by them.
Yesterday I woke up and went downstairs to feed and water the crew and NO LOVIES! I searched and searched. I found the screen on the kitchen window was missing (its a brandnew house and the screens are hard to position and get in they are full length) and the screen was on the ground! The babies had gotten out! I ran outside and called and called nothing. If anyone has ever lost a bird, especially a small one, you never get them back. I started to scramble, the reason I got the lovies was to raise one for my sister and her two girls (10 & 12) They were in a cage they must have figured out how to raise the lil feeder doors.
I cried and cried, I knew they would be dead by nightfall, not even weaned, going on 8 weeks old and still unable to feed on thier own. I live in a very rural area, we have lots of trees, hawks and knew they'd would die terribly. It was raining all day and they had only had two baths in thier entire life!!
That was 7am, at just after 2pm I heard a baby crying, my baby, I grabbed a feeding syringe (they crawl and push each other out of the way to get some food from it) and went outside. He(or she) was the almost at the top of one of the white cedars. I called to him and he tried to land on me but missed and then repeated it and missed, the third time he landed on my head!!!! I grabbed him and held him so tight. I huge weight was lifted the girls wouldn't be disappointed in me. I cried all the way back to house!
So my day went on and so did the rain, then about 4:30pm or so I started to vacuum,my husband is was coming home (he is home a couple days a week) when I shut it off the baby was chirping and chirping, then I realized he was talking to someone, I grabbed the syringe again and rushed out, and there they were in a huge pine near the chicken palace. I called and called they would budge, then they just flew down and landed on me, I scooped them up and rushed back to the house.
All three lovies had survived a day out, downpours and rain all day, hawks and falcons, never mind the snowy owl. I still cannot believe they made it all day out in the wild! Hope you don't mind its not a chicken pix but I think its close to be a chick a miracle!
Yaaaaaaay!!! Lora Im sitting here on the edge of my Chair with my heart in my Throat! Im so happy for you and the Loveys! But your story had me going ! We have got T.V. beat , here on DG. Gotta love it!
Oh and I figured that they had mastered flying and landing so I clipped thier wings! And I use bread ties on thier lil doors!!
Great pics! Were some of those chicks marans? The dark ones with white on their heads look like my chicks did a couple of weeks ago.
Did the rabbit get chased out by the rooster?
Lora they grew up to be Barred Rocks! I didnt get any Marans , but boy did I want some! I bought 6 baby Welsummers at auction though....NOT!!! They turned out to be ding dang old Crele Bantams, the seller misnamed them at the auction! But Im very happy mine were all Barred Rocks!
Shoot that old rabbit goes and comes as he pleases! He has so many escape routes dug under the barn that I might as well name him the caretaker! He loves being with the Chickens during the day and at night he has a Harem of "Wild Ladies of the Evening"! So as you could see in the picture he just lays around with the gang snoozing 'til its time to "Go to Work"! LOL!!!

One of the best talkers I ever had was a lovebird I handfed. Use to love to tag along in a shirt pocket.
Glad to hear you got them back.. You're very lucky they normally don't make it back once they get out. If you've ever seen a pet bird get loose they are very disoriented when they finally land on something... start to panic. Good thing they are still dependant/hooked on the feedings.
I had a cockatiel do that to me once, I can still remember running thru the woods chasing the site of its tail feathers yelling "Peeeeetey, come baaaack". I did manage to get Petey, but if it happened today I know I wouldn't be able to keep up.....lol.
~Julie =0)
LOL! He looks my Papillon/Chihuahua after being out in the rain and high grass in the field! What kind is he? Soooo many nice chickens! I WILL WAIT, no more chickens this year! I will be scouting for the different ones for next year though!!
I sultans and crested polish are definitely on my list!
