begonia ID

Spring, TX(Zone 9a)

Can someone ID this begonia for me? It had no tags, and was on sale half-off...I loved the color, so I had to have it..I also picked up the creamy white one peeking in from the left in this pic...

Let me know if you need a closer shot...

Thanks!

I don't know the botanical name but those are tuberous begonias....we can't grow them here as they really need the cool weather...or kept in cool conditions....good luck....i kinda think they are called 'Reiger Begonias'

maybe that's why they were half off?
:)
guess they won't be lasting long, eh?
thanks for the ID!

They make a nice house plant. They don't like any water on their leaves. I have bought a few as a 'pick me up' at the grocery store and they last for me for 1 or 2 months. They are usually cheap $3 or $4 so the cost of buying a bunch of flowers. My MIL has had terrific luck growing these and must have just the right conditions -- she has had one for several years now and it is huge and blooms for a good portion of the year and everyone comments on it. I have had other luck growing cane and rex begonias but not the Reigers.

Thanks for the tips!
Well they were just so lovely, and matched my giant coffee cup, so I figured I'd give them a shot...
I have noticed that the leaves look kind of scraggly, so maybe it's because i'm getting too much water on them...

I'll keep my fingers crossed...Thanks again y'all!
