Rose Arbors and trellis'

Cypress, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so jealous you guys....in this thread they are discussing these beautiful arbors they found for what I think are GREAT prices. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the ones that are so fortunate but the cheapest I have found was $99 at Lowes for an iron one. I saw one with a gate also at Lowe's for either $139 or $189, can't quite remember. If I could find one for $29.99 or $39.99, I would so jump at the chance and buy two and be done. Has anyone found any good deals on arbors or trellis'? I just don't know of any other discount places besides Wal-Mart in Houston. Maybe Big Lots?

Big Lot's had BIG black iron arbors for $89 and smaller ones for 39.99 at the beginning of the month. I don't know if they're still there but it's worth a look.

Hobby Lobby has small trellis' and iron "garden art" and when it's on sale it's pretty cheap. Nothing large, but if you need a smaller one they can have a good price.

Also, Ace Hardware has some basic 5' trellis' for $19.99. I didn't really look at the other ones they had to see what the prices were, but that was a much better price than I'd seen elsewhere for similar, so maybe their bigger ones are better priced, also.

It sounds like you're looking for something much bigger, though. Maybe go with wood instead? It seems like that's usually cheaper. Or, I saw a thread on another forum where they used cattle fencing as a trellis. It's inexpensive, large and can be bent and staked to a lot of different shapes (arches, pillars, etc.). Not pretty by itself, but once covered with plants, that won't matter.

I was supposed to add it and I forgot. When I said "this thread"....there was supposed to be a link following that. lol I am going to try to find again. Let me tell you this arbor someone got from some Fred's place is perfect, but they sound like they are farther north, maybe Dallas area. Let me go find it.

Wasn't really about arbors or trellis'. It started out about Ebb Tide and Night Owl... I kinda deterred it for a little bit because I just thought it was so awesome and I want one. If you scroll down you should see it. It has a gate and everything and she took them off. Said she was going to use them as trellis', which I think is a good idea. The gate would actually work for me though. I have dogs and currently have that exact spot where I want the arbor blocked off with some lattice so they don't go pushing on the gate. For that I probably need something very sturdy though as I have big dogs (pit bulls), but I figure its worth a try. I also have my double knockouts there and would kill them if they decided to dig them up.

That is pretty and looks sturdy. Where did you get yours at? They have some similar ones at Wal-mart but I cant remember how much. They are made out of plastic though and my dogs would just chew that up and look at me like, "Is that all you got?" lol

mine is vinyl and we got it at lowes for about 300....we have doggies too...so we put 4 x 4's in the legs so that it had extra strength and thus far they haven't even tried chewing it has been a year...; now the siding off the side of the house is another matter....they think that is quite tasty:)

I did check out Big Lots and they have one for $30 which is really simple. They have one for $80 which I like because it has a bench too. Might try to get that one. I am really eyeing the one at Lowe's for $179 because of the gate. Wonder if they will put it on sale later in the summer?

lowes put our arbor on sale ...that is when we bought ours...so i would just ask them if they plant on doing it and when? i got the above trellis for 29.00 and was quite happy to get it at that...

That's very pretty, Sticks. I love roses on trellis'.

knolan...thanks; i am just grateful to have the roses...this is their first full year in the ground....the rest of their life was in a pot, so i am waiting to see them really fill out......
