well I checked on Craigs list (someone up here had advertised selling some) but none. None close to you on Ebay, 75 miles away in IL. is the closest. Ideal (I bought some chicks and ducklings for a friend from them) they have some on Eggbid 1 doz barred rocks for $16 plus $9 shipping. I haven't checked there website yet but eggbid is probably cheaper. I am not sure if there are any breeders around you. Have you checked with local farms?
If I can do more research let me know

I'm so happy your getting eggs for your incubator. I wish I had some fertile but my silkies are still not laying since being broody. And I dont have a rooster for my big girls. Grammy Eufaula will be so happy when your chickies incubate. Going to the poulty auction tonight, cant wait, it will be my first time going. I'm hoping to fill up my incubater again. I'll let you know what I come home with tomorrow.

Tracey , lets wait a little bit!
Remember the old saying, " Dont Count your chicks 'til they hatch!" , in our case "Lets not name them 'til they Hatch!
Besides it will be a lot more fun to see what they look like first and then we can name them by certain characteristics and funny things they will do! Ooooh it will be so much fun having some of my chickens babies in good ole Missouri!

Robertsville, MO

It will be fun to hatch some chicks from Eatonton ,GA....

Okay We have a go on your eggs! Let me see! Yep here they are and some extras too!
I did want to tell you that the Araucana eggs are not pure! Granny Annie is a pure bred but her Rooster fella is a Buff Orpington! So the green eggs will not produce Araucanas but Buff Orpington /Araucana mixed Chick...Hmmmmm that is going to be a pretty bird!!!

Do I have to clean the incubator every time an egg hatches??
If so what do I use???

No you can't clean the incubator until they are all hatched. If you clean after each one the bator will be open too much and your temps/humidity will be messed up.

When mine are all done hatching. I rinse it well then fill it with some water and put vinegar in it and let it sit for a while then rinse it all out again.

I am hatching 18 eggs.
Here is the question 1 egg is due to hatch June 18th do I have to
put the red plug out of the incubator???
Will it harm the other eggs???
Tracey

I don't know about anyone else, but we don't take our plugs out. I don't think so anyway, I'll have to ask DH when he gets home.

Cathy

Robertsville, MO

Cathy,
What did your hubby say about the plugs???
Tracey

Woodsville, NH

I have a similar incubator. According to the instructions you are supposed to take the plugs out when the chicks have hatched so they can dry. Since you only have one right now that will hatch, there isn't a need to pull them, only one chick will be drying (thats what pulling the plugs does, releases the humidity) and you need to keep the humidity in the incubator for the eggs.

Robertsville, MO

Thank you LoraK,
That is what I was asking about ...
D-mail me I have a couple other question about the incubator..
Tracey

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

If it were me what I would do since it will be a lone chick, once it's moving around well it will be beating up the other eggs wet or not after a couple hours I'd pull it and put it under a brooder light. It will be warm and dry off quickly.

After a couple of my silkies started moving the other eggs around, I put a small low cardboard box,I am sure a marjarine container would work for one, line it with papertowels and it (they) shouldn't mess with the others. I think thats the reason I lost two was they got rolled to much the day they were due to hatch.. As my guineas (16 good eggs last count) I am going to put the box in early and as a couple hatch I will place them in the box (quickly as possible). I don't know if it really helps, I just felt bad I lost two.

Robertsville, MO

LoraK and Julie, Thank you for th Ideas and help if I need any thing I will post on here.
Tracey

Freedom, PA(Zone 6a)

I did find out why we don't pull the plugs, my DH has a extra incubator he warms up to put the newly hatched chicks in so they don't disturb the other eggies, LOL. I guess you are supposed to pull the plug for drying. But since DH dries in another incubator we have never pulled the plugs. Sorry if I confused you.

Cathy do not swet the small stuff.. Its okay...
