What's this beneath my lantana? Look at the corner garden, just beneath the swath of yellow lantana. Is this a common garden pest?

What's infesting my lantana? Anyone recognize this critter?
If your are talking about the fox under the bush... we have them around here sometimes. Rabies is a concern in our area sometimes but if they are not asting agressive and you don't have any small pets to worry about... they are safe... will run from you.

Is that one of your Pommies? If so, I'm sure it's only aggressive if you forgot his/her toy, treats, or some display of affection! :-) What a cutie.

Has to be a Pommie not a fox! *giggle
Hee hee -- yes, this is one of the little Poms, a black-and-tan named Misty. She does have a foxy look about her, though, and we do have some foxes in the area that are similarly colored (my small not-so-good photograph enhances that illusion, I think) -- as well as the occasional coyote, rattlesnake, nutria, and monk parakeet!
I was out working and saw a rustling in the lantana, and I thought Uh Oh, because two years ago a copperhead was in that garden -- and it bit my search-and-rescue Golden in the face. Not a pretty moment at first: I don't want to kill a snake just because it IS one, but I can't have copperheads in the garden near the Poms OR the Golden.
Then the lantana rustled a little more, and the sly little shade-loving Pommie revealed herself. :-)
Our Miss Iggie is now 12 years old; in her youth, we took her to Yellowstone Natl. Park. She had just had a very short haircut. The lady at the gate asked if she were a fox. DH responded, "Yeah, we caught her when she was a pup". The lady answered seriously, "Well, l just knew it had to be a fox." She absolutely believed it! Iggie still recites the story. :)
