hanging baskets

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I like to use the little white 4.5" hanging baskets for some of my smaller hoyas. I have bought them before on ebay but would like to know a source to order them directly if anyone knows that information and is willing to share it.

The 6 inch hanging baskets are nice too. I too would like a source for both sizes.

I got mine from Awanda - ACsAgapePlants. (And I really love them!) I think she has both sizes....Try d-mailing her.

I have a source for really inexpensive hanging basket thta I already use but they only offer them in sizes satrting at 6" and up.

I like and need the 4.5" ones and what i'm paying for them on ebay I know is much more than what i'd be paying if I bought directly from the source.

Had I used my brain to start with I should have realised that all I needed to do was look on the bottom of the pot. Whamoo!! Prestoo!! got the name of the site, have already browsed the products and got my order in!!!! No more ebay purcahes for baskets!!!!!

Hi Michael

Please send me the name of the site as I will be needing small baskets for my 11 cuttings. We can also share shipping costs if you want to order together.

I like these little baskets too, they are perfect. Mine came indirectly from Awanda too. I also got some that are the same size only wider and more shallow - problem is, they are those "reservoir" pots, which I hate, so I have to take out that plastic disc and poke extra holes in the bottom. Still, I got 10 of them from a local roadside garden lady, she had so many extras that impatiens came in that she potted up, so she just gave them to me.

I love and use a lot of both those 4.5 and 6" pots...and also purchased mine from Awanda.
Does anyone know if they come in a terracotta or dark green color?

Medford, NJ

I don't know if the white pot's manufacturer makes them in other colors, but I have 2 hoyas ( from a now out of business grower in Florida - Jacobsons ) that are in small dark green baskets, name on bottom is Lerio Corp. - they can't be very old, I got the plants less than 2 yrs ago.

You can buy spray paint for plastic, but I am not sure how it holds up if it gets wet repeatedly - obviously you'd only have to spray the outside and maybe a few inches on the inside, just below the upper rim, for looks. As for the plastic hangers, I usually take them off and replace them with the wire ones that are really long, made for the larger hanging baskets. The extra length is great for the vines to climb up and wrap around. The plastic ones always seem to break on me eventually anyway.

Logees has 4.5 " hanging baskets in terra cotta.

I have about 50 white pots, the pots are good but the hangers after a year or so become brittle and break, i will get me some of the logees pots and see if they hold up after time.

I ordered 20 pots from Logees as well. The pots are cheap enough, but the shipping is what hurts. The shipping was $9.95 for standard parcel post.

I love those sturdy little white baskets that Gemila sells/sold (still on Ebay) but as Ric says, in time the hangers become brittle and break. Lately, I have been switching the hangers from other baskets.

I purchased a case of 6" baskets form someone a few years go that came half white and half green. I noticed after the first year all of the hangers on the white ones dry rotted and broke off. All of the gren ones are still intact and I still use them.

I ordered a case of the 4.5" white ones which should be here tomorrow. I noticed that the company offers the option of getting wire hangers to go with them instead of plastic which is what I should have done but didnt think about it when I paced the order. I may call them back and see if they'll allow me to order wire hangers to go with them which i'll use once the plastic ones dry rot.

David,
Lesli and I tried to order the green pots, but, I think the order had to be around 1000. Maybe we should look at a co-op for the green pots!
I am over white pots. I bought Krylon paint in green, but, did not like the results. It is so darn hard to find the right size pot for each plant. I now cruise the Big Lots and the Dollar Store for plastic pots, drill holes and make my own wire hangers. It is a bit extra effort, but, worth it in the end!

Medford, NJ

I just punch holes in the bottom of the pots with a phillips head screwdriver, works fine, takes 2 seconds and no hassle getting the drill out or sweet talking some man into operating it for me.

I hear you BH. If I make a Honey Do list for my DH, it becomes a Honey Don't list! I bought a small drill that is very user friendly. That and an electric power washer have cut down on my need to sweet talk DH and I can save it for more manly man jobs!

Huntsville, AL(Zone 7a)

Mel, pick up a Dremel for yourself and you'll find that those pesky chores needing to be added to the DH's list will dwindle considerably. It is a very user-friendly tool and now quite inexpensive. Works GREAT on pots, etc. I use it a lot to make the holes larger in terra cotta pots for my cacti & succulents.
DM, did you get your pots? Would you mind sharing the info on your supplier? Thanks!

Since I have several hanging pots that I use indoors in the winter, and then outside in summer, and the hangers aren't reliable, I remove the original hangers and I make hangers out of chain that I buy in the hardware store by the yard, and then attach the chain to the pot through the holes used by the hanger with a small nut and bolt. Eventually I suppose the plastic on the pot will become brittle, and this won't work, but I think I have some that I have had more than 10 years.

That settles it Barb! I will get Paul a Dremel for Fathers Day. Last year he got a cordless screwdriver that stays in my tool box.
Great idea on the chains, Susan.

dmichael-
I know you wanted 41/2 inch, but I found Dillens with a 5 7/8 inside diameter, green or white, 100 to a case for $48.79. They may carry smaller size pots, but I can't find them. Griffin Greenhouse and nursery supply - they have a website (I work 5 minutes from one of their branches). The branch nearest to you is Richmond, VA, but they ship. And check their clearance section - screaming deals!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

db, I ordered a case of the 4.5" baskets but use 6" as well. have had jsut as ahrd a time finding a supplier for those so i'll check into it.

I have a supplier for 8-12" baskets and can get shipments of 100-8" baskets for $35. Eight is as high as I go for my hoyas.

Thanks for the info on the info.
