Loquat question

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Does anyone know if you need two trees to get fruit? A friend has one that has never set fruit so I thought I'd ask.

surfside beach, SC(Zone 8b)

I have one loquat that is still too young to have fruit but there are many trees around this area with fruit and there are no others near them.

Fulton, MO

From the CRFG site: "The loquat is normally pollinated by bees. Some cultivars are self-infertile and others are only partially self-fertile. Flowers of the early and late flushes tend to have abnormal stamens and very little viable pollen."

Thanks so much! I'll pass the info along.

Thanks Chica, I always thought they were too, but his hasn't ever set fruit. So when he asked me, I scratched my nog and said, 'Well, I don't know, I'll ask on DG'

My loquat tree is seven years old. It was grown from seed. It bloomed and set fruit when it was five years old. There are no other loquat trees around that I know of. The first year it set fruit, there wern't too many. Each year it bore more and more fruit. Last year we pruned the tree. We didn't have too many this year, but the lychee tree made up for it. We have over 100 lychees on the tree. The birds and squirels are very happy. We can all share in the fruit. :o)
