Cutting Back Foliage

Convoy, OH(Zone 5b)

Since I am new at this, can I cut back the foliage on my daffodils and tulips? It has turned yellow and cream colored respectively.

Mmmm...latest reports say wait six week from bloom. Others say wait 'til it falls over.

I cut mine off today because I just couldn't stand it anymore and I do it that way every year and have pretty good return. (about 5 weeks)

If your leaves are yellow and cream they can't be producing much energy to the bulbs. I say cut!

You can safely cut the foliage on your daffodils once they turn yellow. Try interplanting your daf bulbs with pansys or some other flower that will follow bloom time. Since daffs are often planted deeper, you could dig up the bulbs and try layering some perennials in. You know, sort of like a layered salad!

LOL I am with tabasco - has been 10-12 weeks for me and many of them were STILL green this week! I couldn't take it anymore...and foliage went bye-bye. Like tabasco I have always had good return.

I suppose that if mine were still green that long, I'd whack them off, too! My goodness:))

Thanks to all of you who responded to my question. I find this site very helpful to beginning gardners like myself.
