I'm new to growing begonias (outside the supermarket variety) and would like some planting advice. A few weeks ago I got Sohie Cecile and Craklin' Rosie and planted them directly in the ground. They appear to love their new home and are fairly thriving for me.
I just got a handful of rexes and I'm not sure how to plant them. I was about to pot them up when I thought about the cains and how they love their new environment. Do you think the rexes would like the direct approach as well or are they too fragile to to go directly into the ground? Our summers are fairly hot and humid and I do have good shade for them. What do you think?
TIA.

Planting Rexes
I'm guessing no one's tried this. I'll let you know how they do!
They should do fine - just don't keep them waterlogged or too dry.
Thanks!
Rexes can do OK in the ground. Just keep a close eye on them. Make sure you don't leave the leaves wet overnight (water early so they dry out) because they are susceptible to Botrytis, also if it rains hard and is very windy, they leaves are fragile and can break easily.
My personal choice is not to put them directly on the ground, but I've seen them on the ground and they look nice.
Good luck... and if you have pictures on how they look for you, share them with us!
Thanks!
