I had never seen a variegated Hawaiian Tree Hibiscus until today....she says people buy it for the foliage but it doesn't bloom very often
I saw two great kinds of of tree hibiscus
That one is a Mahoe tree or sometimes called Hau (hah uuu) grown for the leaves, rarely blooms until a very tall sized tree forms.Very cold tender.

Thanks for telling me as I love the foliage....that is why I never buy Breynia something???.....the foliage is so pretty and variegated but I can't even winter them over......although they are in every nursery I go to (I think we used to call it Snowbush hibiscus)
My mom purchased a beautiful variegated hibiscus tree from Home Depot when she first retired, about 7 years ago. Hers does bloom fairly often and always has - it's got a lovely small red flower, more of the hanging style. It's always been on her porch and even in this past crazy So Cal winter (although it's not quite as cold in Corona as it is where I live in north San Bernardino), it has done fine - lost a lot of leafs this year for the first time - but it's come back just beautifully. It wasn't marked anything other than "hibiscus" (lol) when she bought it, and I've never seen another one since. I'll have to take a picture and post it when I go to her house in a couple weeks.
