Chickies first night out!

Woodsville, NH

Well the shingles were on and the windows were in so the older chicks spent the night in the chicken palace (thats what my husband says it is) He built a chick wrangler (a 3ft square that is about 24 inches tall with a small top door and its all covered in chicken wire). I did put their light out with them. The stupid Coyotes were hollowing so I was up checking all night even though its a tight house and I put a pallet against the doors just in case ( which were locked)(a tiny bit paranoid) It was over 90 degrees yesterday and almost that today and everyone appears happy and rolling in the shavings.
I was sitting there watching them and a bug flew in, some kind of beetle, a red silkie grabbed and one of the older silver sebrights
grabbed it from him and ran off and gobbled it down!!! I cannot wait for them to eat all the bugs around here, my Mother said they eat anything that moves and most things that don't!
This summer we are going to run permanent electricity and insulate and finish the inside. I was telling my husband about the "hanging waterers" with the way these guys kick shavings into the water those will be designed and hung ASAP! As soon as its painted and finished up I will post pics (its nothing special 10x10 shed like) We are adding a cupola and a weathervane!!!

LOL, we're shingling this weekend, too! All that is left is to put in shavings and we are good to go. I'm also going to try bathing all my gals, as I saw a louse!!! on one, with shampoo and Dicremacious Earth ( or however you spell it) I'll be posting more pics soon as well

there are home made incubators you could make, do don't have a sitting hen do you? Does anyone else around you? I use an incubator for mine. Post and see if there is anyone around you with a setting hen or maybe an incubator they are not using right now. I really wished you guys did live closer, I have an incubator and the eggs will be hatching in about three weeks (colored guineas, they take about 28 days and the silkies 21)
Post maybe somebody has a better suggestion I only know how to incubate in an incubator.
Sorry I couldn't help more, good luck!

I forgot, keep the egg cool (a nice dark cabinet away from the stove or frig is fine, or even your pantry) and roll it a couple times a day so if you do find someone in the next couple of days it will have a better chance!
