Preparing for a big storm

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm curious as to what others do when a big storm is approaching.

we had one roll thru at 2:30am this morning, and DH was running around unplugging things.

before I got the new office furniture, i would unplug the "power strips" from the wall and disconnect the cable from the wall
[when we were on dial-up, i'd unplug that]

but now -- my outlets are covered so i can't get the plug out of the wall.

best I can do is pull the main power supply from the back of the PC and disconnect the cable from the wall.

DH is fanatical about it as he had a friend last year that lost 10's of thousands of dollars worth of machines and electronics, and this guy DID unplug everything -- something about coming in thru the circuit breaker... though i think he took a direct hit.

You PC guys.... what all should i be doing to protect myself in electrical storms?

TIA,

Terese
