this is rob,s shadow magic i started from a leaf
now why is all the leaves white.
solid white leaves
I don't know the answer to that Eunice, but it sure is pretty! I can't wait to see what it looks like when it grows up and blooms! Please keep us posted! I would love one with pure white leaves like that .... it's really different!
I understood that a plant with total white leaves would not live.
i don't no why its white, but i put a leaf down and this is what came up, will wait and see what happens
You lucky duck....just a hunch but I think if I had that, I would make sure it gets more light and food and the others.......
gessiegail
i have it under my lights, and there on 12 to 14 hours a day,
so how often should i feed it and with what
i have vf11 ((- shults african violet food- ))
and (( mirical grow violet food,)) and ultra growth)
but i have been useing only vf 11 far a while.
I think that I would just stay with VF11.....(I don't know much about the ultra growth)....at least with Eleanor's VF11, it says you can't burn the plant with the food??? But I hate to be advising you on such a rare plant.....I wouldn't mix it any stronger than it says but be very faithful in feeding it....
**** edited to say that maybe snowrose, keyring, etc. will come along......

It sure is a cutie! Does it have any green at all on it? I believe I'm correct in saying if they are solid white with no green whatsoever, they cannot survive, as they cannot photosynthesize. I've had babies come up that were all white, but they developed green as they got larger. Still being attached to the mom leaf fed them what they needed. I think as a stand-alone plant it will have to have some green or it just won't make it. Keep babying it, though, and it might put out some green leaves and survive just fine! Keep us posted on how it does. :o)
RainGazer
it looks like there might be a hint of green in the lines of the leaf, where the stem goes into the leaf it looks like it might get some green.question, how close to the lights should i keep it,right now its about 8 inches from it,is that to close are not close enought
Well great! Maybe it is just starting white and will develop some green! Here are my two that started out completely white. In the back is Ramblin' Ruby and in front is Trinket O' Pink. You can see that Trinket is still mostly white, but there's enough green in there to keep it alive and growing nicely. Both of these were completely solid white when they were smaller, so they can and do start out that way and develop green along the way. Yours looks fine right now, so my best suggestion would be to keep doing what you're doing. I wouldn't move it from where it's at, because, as I understand photosynthesis, if there's no green, there's no chlorophyll, and if there's no chlorophyll, it doesn't matter how close to the lights it is, it's not going to photosynthesize. If it's got green starting in the leaves, hopefully it will continue to develop. And you can see that Trinket put out one leaf that is almost all green, so yours might do that too. :o) Never give up hope!
RainGazer, you have some awesome plants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no room right now for one thing, but you will see me at the end of the summer begging for leaves from this one!!!!!!!!!! Every once in a while, someone post a "to die for" plant.....this is one of them!!!
both of them is so pretty RainGazer
ok i will keep it wheres it's at,and with luck it will live and grow up to me pretty, thanks
yours is truly beautiful also, starfly!!!!
I have never seen an AV like that .... so unusual, I Love the look of the mostly white leaves.
Rain: What is the blossom color on those two of yours? I would love to see a photo when they are in bloom, I bet it just enhanses the beauty of those plants!
Aww thank you all. :o) The mom plant of Trinket O' Pink wasn't nearly that white. Don't know why the baby ended up that way, but I'm not complainin'!
Trinket has never bloomed for me, but it has pink blooms. Here's a link to a picture of it. http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/Trinketo'PinkLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/Trinketo'PinkLrg.jpg#
And here's my mom plant of Ramblin' Ruby when it was blooming. It blooms, well, ruby colored! LOL
Oooh, Trinket O' Pink is Gorgeous .... but I love Ramblin Ruby too .... that one grows "up" like Annabelle seems to do!
I keep wanting to do this the 'right' way and not allow multiple crowns, but I just have to let some of them do it!!!!! They are cute!!!
Ramblin' Ruby is always reaching for the stars, Lin, at least that's the way it grows for me... It's a trailer, too, Gail, so it's supposed to have multiple crowns. Trinket isn't, but as white as it is, I'm not going to start ripping it apart. When I repot, I'll leave it just like it is - only two crowns for now, but who knows later on. I'm certainly not going to show them, so whatever they want to do, as long as I can get them to bloom now and again, is fine with me.
Beautiful, Gail! Love the variegated leaves and of course those Pink Blooms!
