Heard a clatter at my window and looked up just in time to see wings all aflutter. It was one of our neighborhood roadrunners hunting. Pretty sure it was a grasshopper - hence the hopping up and banging into the window. Didn't see any red flashes on the head, so I think it was a female or youngster. The male is not usually so fidgety.
I will keep trying to get better pictures of these guys - they are so fun to watch.

Fabulous - how fun is that?? I've never seen a roadrunner . . . wish I could!
That's why I'd like to get some good pictures; lots of people have never seen them outside of cartoons!
My parents once had a regular morning visitor who would come to see the 'other' roadrunner at their house. They had a large Mexican urn on the patio covered in small mirrors. The roadrunner would slowly go around the pot, trying to make that other bird stop for a visit. It was the funniest thing to watch - nearly every day.
Their noises are interesting, too.
