The eggs that I took in from the nest that the raccoon got at are actually pipping. I candled them and 4 looked like they had something in them, so I figured I'd through them in the incubator and see what happened. Three of the four are pipping. All 3 of those are silkie eggs. The other one was from my Plymouth Rock. There were 2 destroyed by the coon and 2 didn't 'start'. I've been hoping that the red hen I've got with a young silkie rooster would lay fertilized eggs, so I put some with the brooding silkie and I've put a couple in the incubator with other eggs, but so far no luck. Today is the 'due' date for the eggs from the silkie so I'll wait and see. Maybe I'll still have enough white silkies after all.
They're actually pipping
Congrats! I hope all of yours make it!
Terriffic!!! Good luck with the Silkies!
Best Luck Halnik!
The 3 silkie eggs in the incubator have hatched-one appears to have a problem keeping one of it's legs under itself. The egg still with momma has hatched. And the egg from the Plymouth Rock is in the process of hatching as I write this. That one I didn't think would make it. The bottom 'point' of the egg got slightly damaged when the coon got at them, but it looked like it was just the shell. I took it out this morning about 6 and could here the chick inside, but there was no sign of it pipping, yet. Now it's cracked the shell about 1/4 of the way around.
Big congrats !!!!
You know we will want to see chickie pics too...lol
You can never tell with eggs. During that power outage my incubator temps dropped into the low-mid 80's and I still had some eggs that hatched out.

I like to give them a 'fighting' chance. Even when it all seems to go 'normal' and some don't hatch on the 'due date' I tend to leave them for a day and a bit-just in case.
That chick is still pretty wet so I'll wait before taking pictures. Now I can rest and relax a bit, knowing that they're all well. Just have to figure out what to do with momma. I can't put her back out by herself with her chick, in the coop she was in. The other 'standard' chickens will likely beat up on the chick and kill it. I'm thinking it will likely have to be put with the ones from the incubator.
I was also surprised to find 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks and possibly a Harco Black-all day olds in the box I had ready for the silkie chicks, last night when I came home from my 2 girls' soccer games. My future son-in-law's parents just purchased about 30 day olds to raise for eggs and I had asked him if I could by a couple from them. That way it would only be a couple bucks a piece instead of the added delivery charge plus the less than 10 per order charge. I wasn't expecting them to come till June and he had thought they would be getting them when they were 2 or 3 weeks old. Now I can raise them all together, which will be handy.
Yiiipppie!!!!!! So Happppppeeeee! Way to go , You did it, or Mama did anyway!!!!!
Just something I read somewhere and have never tried it bit if a egg has some damage to it you can coat the cracked area with clear nail polish....suppposedly it works
DO NOT coat the whole egg!!!
its suppose to be for eggs we accidentally crack while handling
