I have been worried about the heron making a return attack on our pond. We are going to put fishing line around the pond but haven't had time. I was wondering if putting a radio on the back porch(the pond is right beside the porch)would keep the heron away? I could tune the radio to talkradio, that should scare it away!
Thoughts?

Blue Heron Thoughts
I've heard the fake alligators floating in the pond help!!! I got one 2 yrs ago and haven't had a problem since.

I have also heard that a heron won't land on a pond that another heron is at. If that is true, put a heron statue of some sort out and hope they see it and won't invade the space.
I do all the things I have heard - have the alligator, like Jeri, have a heron staked outside the pond, and also have a gazing ball floating in my pond. Haven't had one yet, but who knows if any and which of my efforts are working.
I've iron allegators sitting on the edge of my pond, which was recommended by a pond-gardener locally. That it would deter Herons. (We have both white/blue Herons, here). Though, there is a larger body of water nearby, and an abundant of fish. No heron came close to our pond. One King Fisher did however, dive into our glass window, got knock out silly. I was so worry for it. But, it recovered a good while later. And flew off.
In regard to the Radio method. I tried that to ward off Ducks, and/or Chipmonds that digs on my plantings...the experiment failed. I'd consider scare-crow next. Or flying colorful, garden flags?
I have a friend that has a water scrawcrow. It's motion sensitive and shoots a blast of water at the predator but I would be the one that got blasted so I haven't tried that one yet. I'm out in the yard alot and haven't seen any.
