Is Shrimp Plant a Host Plant?

Roscoe, TX(Zone 7b)

My shrimp plant is slowly disappearing due to a major attack of some fuzzy cats. They feed only at night. You guys think these are butterfly cats or moth cats?

Edinburg, TX

You didn't say which shrimp plant you have?

Green shrimp plant (blechum brownei) - larval host for the malachite butterfly

Red Shrimp plant (justicia brandegeana) - larval host for some Crescents

Golden shrimp plant (Pachystachys lutea - not a known larval host

Blue Shrimp plant (cerinthe major purpurascens) - not a known larval host

Most shrimp plants are good nectaring plants :o)

As for fuzzy cats...do you have a photo? Chances are the fuzzy cats are moth caterpillars...many which feed at night...and some moth species will eat a variety of plants.
