here is the old thread with the old picture

Wow. That looks TERRIFIC. I went back and followed your whole thread on this and laughed and laughed about the table, chairs, etc. in the BMW. It was a sympathy laugh. I also drive a convertible and inevitably want to BUY BIG when I have the two-seater. I never find all this stuff when I'm in the Jeep Cherokee.
For anyone in the Dallas area who likes unusual containers for a cottage garden, I can recommend a funky antiques store -- Curiosities -- on Abrams Road at Gaston, not far from White Rock Lake. Curiosities is full of old -- ahem *vintage* -- lawn furniture, some crazy carnival and circus signage, and lots of unusual kitsch that could make cute containers for judicious use. Prices aren't too bad, either. Though I didn't buy them, they had taken some old 18" letters from old signs, removed the spent lighting tubes, and had planted in them, herbs in one, cactii in another, hen & chicks in another, some with flowers -- cute and funny. Those letters sold like hotcakes, planted out, at I think $15.00 apiece or so, which elsewhere in Dallas would have doubled.
They do some crazy things and occasionally have really good buys on things you can plant up yourself.
susannah...i miss dallas so much; i don't miss the traffic and the fast pace...but i do miss dallas; never made it to curiosites....altho it probably open when i lived there....
gotta love convertables...i think hubby bought it for me to curb my spending...and/or curb my dragging stuff in...; and i really do find good stuff when i am in the convertable...not when i have the suv....go figure...
Curiosities only opened last year, so you probably didn't see it. It's a distilled version of a big antiques "mall" that used to be on Lower Greenville up until about 2001.
You ever make it back to Dallas, let me know. We'll go treasure-hunting. I love to find little containers I can tuck away in a garden so that when people round a corner, they find a little visual surprise. A reward for exploration! :-D
susannah ...i think i went to that mall when i lived in dallas...; it was down from the blue goose mexican restaruant ...right? i can't believe they aren't there anymore...but at least i can take my girlfriend there when we meet up in dallas....she has since moved to athens and is not as familiar with dallas haunts anymore....; i have an antique store in the town that i live...but i got burnt out and haven't opened it in about 6 months...haven't sold the building and the store stays there unopened....
