Aren't they wonderful? I've seen one flitting about the garden but it didn't land...

They are, I see a pair most days when it's sunny, they land briefly but by the time I get there with my camera they flit on.

I got some poor shots on zoom one day, one kept going to purple flowers but seemed to like the straight species flowers with purple. The first I saw them last year was on the purple Lathyrus vernus, sure enough that's when they turned up this year. I saw one feeding on Geranium versicolor, then a small viola with purple, it went to anything that had purple or close but rejected anything that wasn't a species. They need the species.

Yes the flower mine was interested in was lady's smock. You really have to grow what they like to get them interested. I've even left a patch of nettles in my garden in hope..

There are plenty of nettles here on the roadside by the drains, which many caterpillars live on so they do have some uses!
