I just had to post a picture of these beautiful grape hyacinths I put in last fall. The color is heavenly, the softest baby blue. There is nothing else like it in my garden. I don't know if I can wait for them to multiply! I may have to buy more. They are Valerie Finnis. I could swear I had ordered some by that name some years back but they were not this beautiful color. Mislabeled maybe?
Maybe others could show their favorites?
favorite addition to my bulbs
Chris, me too, I have already ordered more (30) on a coopfor next year. They are still so beautiful. I also liked the bi-colored one with the dark bottom and the blue top. Muscari latifolium as well as another very special one called Muscari azureum which is another nice light blue, but shorter and fatter and opened earlier for me. I planted a strange one that I sort of like, but it is more of an oddity than a love so far, Musk Hyacinth muscari ambrosiacum, which is written of as pale yellow and lavender, but for me it was a very pale gray. No real color but a nice form. I also have armeniacum 'Blue Spike' which is still opening and I am out on if I like it. It has a strange fuzzy look. I have a few others, some in big patches which I would love to have for Valerie Finnis. Patti
Wow! I kind of knew there were lots of varieties of muscari, but I've never seen pictures of so many. I especially like the one in the bottom right hand corner. That would really stand out in the garden. Is that the azureum? Thanks for the pictures.
I also planted Valerie Finnis this year and had great results. I think that some of the bulbs produced three scapes. Many of them produced more than one. They also set seed. I hope that it is viable, even if it isn't true to the parent stock.
I plant grape hyacinths over my lilies to mark location. It keeps me from digging up or cutting into the deeped bulbs. The Muscari always send up foliage early down here.

Beth That is a great idea. Thanks, Patti
