Watsonias are giving me fits

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I love the delicate flowers on watsonias but I'm disappointed in the fact the blooms are all crooked looking and the plants itself seem to lean regardless of how deep I plant them. I decided to try them out because I'd read that they require no staking (as glads do). However, I'm discovering the exact opposite.

I have seen them in bloom at our county extension office and they're nice and straight. Mine are planted in full sun, with some afternoon protection, just like they are at the county demo gardens. But mine do not look nearly as nice. I will try to post a pic tomorrow.

any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

When the bulbs are young and recently planted, they may lean and the flower stalks may tilt. That is because they are freshly planted. The bulbs will adjust themselves in the ground and the stalks will thicken and be more sturdy next year. It may take a couple years till you have a clump with nice upright flower stalks, but they will do it without any help.
Patience.....
Rebecca
