Hi everyone. Over the past few years, so many of you brought a good deal of hope, love and warmth into my home as I struggled with a mysterious and terminal illness Ricki had. As I held her to hand-feed her, I used to read her all the new posts and the kind words inspired us to keep pushing forward.
It will only be a year ago next month that we lost Ricki. Recently my eldest cat, Peanut, had been diagnosed with Mammary tumors. She had her third surgery last week and we just learned the tumors are [now] malignant, extremely aggressive. Her vet is working with an Oncologist to determine what the best course of action will be.
I rescued Peanut from an abusive home many years ago. She had a broken jaw, three broken teeth (one was jammed into her sinus cavity) and other issues. She survived and she is strong. She will, however, be 13 years old this summer.
Right now, aside from the tumors, Peanut is extremely healthy and happy. Her vet told me tonight that Chemo is available but it would be life-altering and very hard on her. Her type of cancer may/will eventually spread to her lungs and lymphoid, especially if untreated.
We sit patiently waiting to hear wait the better of the evils are - do we proceed with chemo and radiation and less her quality of life on the off chance it might give her a little more time? Do we just remove the tumors as they grow and become uncomfortable?
It is very unsettling to be unable to help her.
Anyone have any referrals or suggestions?
