Dumb Squash question

Hi.. The squirt and I grew Acorn Squash last year and the plant was very similar in shape and habit to a zuccini plant. Over the winter I had purchased an acorn squash from the store and the squirt insisted on saving seeds. She planted them this Spring and the plant that is growing is a vine. Do Acorns have a "bush" as well as a vine variety?
